Pretty sure they are a sports version of the opel motor. Made I think in Germany or UK not a bad car for a little chick's car. Parts can be expensive because they're all imported.
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now

yeah know all the good stuff, know its an import opel. want to know if anythihng bad goes wrong as it the 1st year of SRi's
Didn't that model win some kind of award for being best small car of the year. I have heard they are good but were a bit pricey at the time.
Pretty sure they are reliable, ex missus had the stock one and it seemed to be happy as, unlike the exIs there such thing as a barina forum, would atleast be an opel forum in UK

people seem to be holding onto them rather than selling them so i guess that means a good thing! either that or no one wants them... lol.
A couple of people i know have them, unsure is the same model, but i've never heard a word against them.
ive heard that they are very well built and reliable. germans know how to build cars
both my sisters used to own that model barina, good little cars and i never saw them have a problem in the 80,000 ish k's they both did in each of them
SRi Barina has the Astra's larger bore 1.8L engine. Those engines have a reputation of the toothed rubber cam timing belt failing and destroying the engine. Because of this the replacement interval has been brought forward to about 60 or 80,000km and this adds cost to the maintenance of the vehicle. Apart from that they don't seem a bad car, a mate has one and tells me he gets a laugh out of the stunned expression on the faces of the drivers of commodores when the "little girls car" is still on their tail after giving their V6 curry.
Made in Spain and sold as an Opel "Corsa" in Europe.
They aren't bad little cars. Not as fast as I expected when I first drove one, but we saw a lot of them (I worked in a Vauxhall dealership in the UK) and didn't really see many with serious problems. As someone said, it's important to keep the timing belt replacement up to date and also check that the steering column doesn't move from side to side at all.
Whoever said 'There is no substitute for cubes' had obviously never heard of Jet power
