Some of the posts in 'Driving Habits That Piss You Off' reminded me of my twenty years of driving trams and some of the crazy things that people do.

One in particular at the intersection of Abbotsford St and Flemington Rd in Melbourne made me laugh out loud all day when I thought back to it. I was stationary waiting for the green arrow to turn red. As it turned green I had to let a passenger on. I shut the dioor and commenced to cross the intersection.

As I did a moron in a Fairlane drove through the arrow and I had to apply my emergency brakes to miss him. As it was the emergency brake the gong sounds automatically. To which the driver turned his head and gave me the finger. By the time he'd faced back towards the road the traffic had commenced coming through the intersection. He chucked on the anchors to avoid a collision and found himself propped in the middle of the intersection with cars honking him all over the place.

As I drove through, I cheerily sounded my gong at him and went on my way

Yeah, but occasionally it ends in tears ))

I recall a simialr incident at the Haymarket roundabout. There are points that have to be set to change the direction of travel of your tram. These are auto controlled from the tram, but occasionally they fail and the driver has to get out and change them manually.

On this particular day I had to get out and change them. A bloke towing a big boat was honking his horn at me cos I was blocking the intersection. I felt like being awkward so I really took my time. By the time I got back in the tram. this guy was livid.

As I commenced driving he's gone completely nuts and got out of his car. Unsure why, but as he ran towards the tram his car started to roll back and smacked into the car behind him...
