Yep its easy to do. On the desktop, go into printers in control panel and right-click on the printer, go to sharing and enable it.

On the laptop, now browse to the desktop PC through the network or type \\dektoppcname\ (replace 'desktoppcname' with actual dektop PC name) in the address bar in an explorer window and press enter. You should see the printer listed. Double click on it to install. If you don't know what your dektop PC's name is, you can find out by going into System in Control Panel. Its on the 'Computer Name' tab.

If you have a firewall on any of the PC's, you may need to set it to low or even turn it off.
