Ok..As the title suggests...I have about 66 processes running..How do I know what to switch off so my compouter isn't so slow..its a laptop..Or Should I take it somewhere if i don't know what i am doing...
Any help would be appreciated...
66 seems a bit too high, hard to say which ones needed turning off without a screen shot, but one thing I tell you is not to stop those process with a 'system' tag on it.
Download HijackThis
Once you have it installed run a scan and save a log file.
email the log file to me and I will tell you what you can remove

Can you tell us what processes are running, or give us a screenshot? In most cases 66 is definately not normal.

its on a laptop only like 1month old..
not good??
Ok..processes are in the below word docs...
what is svchost.exe
casue it comes up numerous times...
here is the info on it
"Svchost.exe" (Generic Host Process for Win32 Services) is an integral part of Windows OS. It cannot be stopped or restarted manually. It manages 32-bit DLLs and other services. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services portion of the registry to construct a list of services that it needs to load. In normal conditions multiple instances of Svchost.exe run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services, so that separate services can be run depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This allows for better control and debugging.
i tried disabling ituneshelper, but that about it..
Which other ones can i safely stop?
preety much just the process that got ur name on it , don't touch the system ones, i sugguest u use startup slection option, if ur having that many process when u start up ur computer.
where is the startup selection option?
am running xp pro as well by the way..
also, if i switch stuff off, will it come back on where i restart the computer?
1.click start
2. click run
3. type in msconfig,
it will be the 1st screen u come when it opens
Ok, am down to 59 and have switched a few things off at Startup on the msconfig tab. Have also selected the selective startup thing. Do all those have to be ticked, or can i turn one or two of them off?
