No net on my computer :(
Gday
My ISP (optusnet Cable) went down last night, neither of our computers could get the net. Today when I boot up the office machine (it's connected to the modem, and my PC is networked to the PC), I can get the net fine on the office PC, but not on my PC. I've run through the Network wizard, changed IP addresses etc, but it's not working on mine. I can view files that's shared on the network fine though. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?
Cheers

You may have to delete the network connection and restart the wizard. Is it a wireless network?

Nope, crossover ethernet cable. grrrrrr this is annoying me, tried ipconfig commands but they did nothing, on my PC I tried to sign in onto Windows Live Messenger, and I ran the (poor) connection troubleshooter, and it had a yellow exclamation mark next to Default Gateway. Both PC's run XP SP2.

The first thing I would do is delete the network connection, delete the network card and reinstall it, then run the network setup wizard again.

ok so the network is fine if you can see the files. sounds like you need to redo the internet connection settings on one of the computers. make sure the main computer is still setup for internet connection sharing

My laptop did the same thing with my PC, it was wireless though, the only way I could get the internet again was reinstall everything. I could see files as well but couldn't connect to the internet, reset the internet connections but had to delete the network connection and redo it.

OK i just deleted the network cards (uninstalled via Device manager), scanned for new hardware, installed the drivers, and set up the IP addresses and the network setup wizard on the office PC first (as it's the ICS host). Still nothing .

Like stocky said, you may need to go into internet sharing and make sure it is enabled on both PC's.

what is your default gateway on both of your PC's?
Your PC's gateway should be the IP address of the office PC!
to get to this manually configure the IP addresses and you will have the default gateway option below where you enter the subnet mask

Shouldn't the default gateway be listed on Optusnets website?
