hi guys my brother only days ago installed a raptor supercharger onto his car, but he has ran into a problem because hes is only 20 and still on his p's no one wants to insure him, we've rang shannons, racv, and just cars, he currently is inusred with racv but they arent going to continue after the 19th because of the s/c, does anyone on this forum know a insurance company that will insure him? thanks
hey this is a bit off topic but how does his car go with the raptor setup?

He might be in a bit of trouble there, but I'm sure I have heard of other young people insuring supercharged cars.
Maybe put it under your parents name with you as a nominated driver or something?
Surely he should have considered the insurance question when he decided to put the supercharger on? It would be the first thing that would pop into my head.
If Just Cars wont take him i dont think anyone else would even think about it. They love taking money of guys with modded cars.
he did but he didnt care at the time lol. the kit goes well still gota run it in but yeah should go pretty well ill tell yas how it goes on the weekend, also we tried to put the car in the olds name but hes the nominated driver and it goes by him no matter what.
you'll need a private ins broker. no company will touch you..... PJ
hmm i gotta look into this eventually. too afraid to call up justcar and tell them what ive done haha. its been like 9 months so far

What's his driving history like?
Just Cas insured me when I was 20 with a blown VS, I changed over to Shannon's a year later and am still with them now (2 cars and contents insurance through them at the moment - top notch).
yeah i would have been thinkin about it before i fitted the blower.........he can always drive it with the charger un-insured but as someone said if you have a crash you wont get anything!
the thing that gets me about just cars, is the fact that on their ads they say: "just got an import?" and "just modified?" and crap that like then they say its insurance for young drivers.........yet they wont insure half the young drivers WITH modifications..........well young drivers on their P's............
Maybe he should give ownership to you parents and then insure in just there name.
I think most companys will allow for an unlisted driver to drive the car but there will be an additional xs.
But i have to agree that he should have looked before he leapt.
Its not losing your car you have to worry about. What if you hit sayyy a 2007 M5? It's just not worth the hassle. In this day and age you are better off driving in stock cars until insurance companies no longer see you as a risk, usually 3 years with no driving faults etc.

*points to self* agreed there! well not 100% stock but all basic mods like extractors and exhaust, re mapped chip and CAI with shift kit arent major power mods........just gives it that little bit more than standard specs lol...........
When it all goes wrong..Your gonna wish you had car insurance
Yeah I know... They even mention that it doesnt matter if you drive a "Supercharged beast" in one of their latest ads. Bunch of twits. They insured my mate who has lost his license once already and who drives a turbo falcon, sure its costing him both his arms and legs... but hes insured. Try ringing just cars again, hell it sounds like they just toss a coin to deciede on who to deciede. He might get lucky.
The reason why insurance companies aren't touching "P" platers or young drivers because they are classed as a high risk... if you are a young driver say under 25 most insurance companies won't touch you if you are driving turbo charged/supercharged or even v8's mainly because the information they gather say that high risk drivers are under the age of 25... hell even some insurance companies won't come near you unless you over 30 (depends on vehicle)
An Insurance Broker may help because they talk to insurance comapanies that don't deal direct with the public. But even that isn't a guarantee because whatever the insurance company says goes i.e there maybe a condition where a driver that drives a certain type of vehicle be it v8 supercharged etc must be over a certain age or must have a decent driving history.. there are alot of factors... unfortunatly it doesn't play well on people our age :'(
Just get your car under your parents name. A couple of my mates have had turbos insured since they were 17. One total his car and aami payed him out fully. no probs at all.
Australia. Love it or leave it
The thing is... while we are high risk... they charge us sometime up to 5 grand a year on insurance, im sure people like just cars would charge even more espically with modded cars, on top of that the excess is also quite large in most cases, so i dont know why the hell insurance companies whinge and moan. If a guy drives a L67 VS goes 2 years without a claim (if he reports **** like door dings in carparks hes a twit because it costs him more in premiums and he still has to pay for the ding) and then writes off his car... The insurance company will probally be still making a profit.
well to update this, we now need an engineering cert to have the car insured with justcars.
