    Default faster internet

ok a while ago i started a thread on dialup internet speed ive now made my internet even faster i have outpost firewall and i noticed that there was a lot of allowed or trusted applications so i turned most of them off apart from the ones i knew what they were man it doubled my page loading speed straight away im wondering if spyware might have been using my connection ive also noticed not so much red outgoing comunications in task manager network monitor and my yahoo messenger hasnt logged out since. the speed is amasing its never been this fast ever a 30 second youtube video comes in quick now 1 or 2 minutes tops

maybe it could help others speed up there surfing

You can get it free with an optus telephone line now haha.

I don't know how people can live off a dialup connection these days, especially considering most pages on the web are graphics intensive, use flash or web 2.0. Pages are slow to load on a 256k adsl connection let alone dialup now.

If you live in the primative newer suburbs of North Canberra, then you can't get it. Hence why I have dial-up.

only have dial-up here. apart from this site i really only ever have it on for emails (usually never big attachments either) so anything that costs more would be an excess for me.
paying less than $8 month so can't complain for what i need it for.

I would hurt myself if I had dial up.

I download in excess of 50gb of stuff every month, it's great at 8,000kbps

i was going the 8mb, but got stiffed the extra $5 by the wife. only 1.5mb for me

outpost is good, particuarly the newer version, for stopping stuff, but its inbuilt spyware scanner is absolute crap. try superantispyware, that's SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware, AntiSpyware, AntiMalware! . there is a free version available, which kills basically everything spyware, malware, etc. having previously been running spybot s&d, adware, avg antispyware, and webroot spysweeper, all simulantiously, i ran super, and picked up another 140 traces, with 30 spyware products installed. Not happy (except with Super!) it would also be a good idea to run Peer Guardian 2, authough bear in mind that if you are trying to visit educational or government websites you would have to turn it off

been having success with things called super lately. Super C video converter, super anti spyware... used to be super ment absolute crap engineered to crash to BSOD. im quite happy for a change

like you said, kingdiamond, i think i would be looking for a bridge if i was back on dialup. although at times i think that many of the servers around are still using it to host pages.

I have an 18mbit connection. I work on my PC full time. And only download about 3 or 4gb a month... Go figure

But I couldn't live without streaming video.

If I downloaded DVD's my net usage would be alot higher.

My internet viewing usually consists of watching replays of footy games I missed over the weekend or on FOX, or watching the TV Show entourage as its released in the US. If you're 3 houses away from Cable I'm assuming, surely you've be close enough to an exchange for ADSL.

Doubt that. Mr hightechhosting spent about 2 hours on msn with me trying to figure it out. The area of my suburb i live is like a dead zone.

I have to move anyway, i want all 3 cars under cover, not just 2

well, soon as you start a car with an ECU, that makes you a computer user by default. I guess we all spend more time playing on the computer than we thought

....heads off to play another "Commodore" driving game....
