I've got a few sets of brake calipers out the back off of a VH and VK (which would also suit VC-VB I guess). I was just thinkin if I could sell them. I realise being in their current state which is what all other 23 year old brakes look like, they wouldn't be much use to anyone.
So I thought maybe if I clean them up, paint them, and put new rubbers and seals in them and sell them for a bit extra.
I've done this to mine, basically cleaned them up until 99% of all crap was removed (using the wire wheel on the drill, and a wire brush), leaving a clean finish. I then clean the surface with prepsol and use proper VHT brake paint to spray the two pieces of the caliper. The rubbers come in kits from PBR (overhaul kits).
As brakes are one of the most important factors in a car, I'll include the overhaul kit with the calipers NOT installed so then I can't be held responsible for the brakes failing.
The overall package would include...
- 2x clean and painted up calipers (in any VHT colour)
- 2x PBR caliper overhaul kit (with instructions)
- And possibly a small tube of PBR rubber grease (depends how small I can get tubes, coz a big tube of it would be pointless)
Mine aren't on my wagz yet so I put them in the smallest box which they fit in, weighed them up and it comes to about 5.5kg. Postage through Auspost varies from about $15 to about $30. Out of the capital cities, Adelaide was the cheapest, Darwin was the most expensve, and Perth, Syndey, Brisbane and Melbourne were around the $20-$25 mark.
So what I wanna know, is ur opinions on it. Do u think people would be interested in buying them? I didn't wanna go to the effort of spending a few hours cleaning them up if yous thought it was a crap idea.
Including postage I wanted to keep the overall price under $100. That includes the brakes themselves, labour to clean them, cost of paint, cost of the overhaul kits and cost of packaging and postage. Do u think that's reasonable?
I clean lots of gear up and paint it, mainly for our cars. I enjoy doing it coz I like turning nothing into something, or make "sh*t shine" as someone has called it lol. I could also clean up other parts as well.
Anyways, I really wanna hear people's feedback on this, so please reply.
Cheers,
Danny.
