Morning All,
For all you computer guru's out there here's one for you, I'm running a windows server at home and centos in a VM.
I have currently got a RAID 5 setup in windows but wondering what software people out there use to monitor drives (realtime) using SMART I gather like smartd in linux, they are a combination of IDE / SATA.
Google actually didn't come up too much, well not that I could find other than programs to run whenever you think of it which I hate doing as I never seem to do it.
Any idea's would be great.
Cheers
Darren
how so do you mean monitor? ie realtime disk performance usage??
and let me get this right your running IDE + sata drives in the same raid array?
if so lol thats not such a good idea, anyway try the built in windows one, Perf mon, but that may only be on server editions thats all ive played around with
i remember ages ago i ran a raid0 with a seagate IV and a 7200.7 and the small variations in the discs caused instability
either way the built in performance monitoring tool sounds like it can do everything you want
When I say monitor I mean monitor the health / state of the drive ie whether it's failing or whether everything is spot on as expected.
For instance if smart in linux picked anything up unusual, drive failure, sudden change etc I had it set to send me an email so I was alerted to a problem.
Yep, I'm running software RAID5 with IDE and sata, have been for the last 2 years or thereabouts on linux without a hitch.
