sad weekend for me, yesterday my calais met its untimely death
towing my car up the hume fwy when a gust of wind from a passing semi hit us, we fish tailed @ 100km/h launching my car a good meter into the air, its got bent axels, broken bodykit, cut up sup frame, i think it cut thru the trans and exhust... my mum was driving, but luckily no one was hurt... it was just a freak accident.. the cars got alot of damage and wont be fixed

Damn man that's no good at all, loved your car mate, after all the effort you put into it.... I guess this can lead to a bigger and better project I suppose...
But, the main thing is everyone is OK, that's the main thing.
But still.....
Geez
atleast no one was hurt. did the truck stop to help ya or see if you and your mum were alright????
yeha the trucky was nice he stopped for atleast a hour, gave his details as a witness, and about 15 other people stopped, even the officer said it was a freak accident
im not really phased tho... after we crashed i couldnt care less about my car lol, those wire ropes saved many peoples lives, it could have been a tragedy... after crashing were like, were ok... check... cars not going to explode.. check, *inspected 4wd*
*inspected trailer*..... *thinks* hrmm wheres my car.. few seconds later dust cloud settles and i see it still skidding along the wire ropes lol
im thinking i might go back in time and get a VL next ill see what happens....
ohhh i forgot to mention ITS OK, the rims didnt buckel or crack :P must be strong ones aye, tyres are ok soo the car is salvagable, might play swapsies with a VL (diff, suspension, turbo, etc)
ohh yeah the front bumper wasnt on the car either, either was the intercooler soo they're all perfectlucky aye
when it came off it broke the winch line lol
unlucky mate.
what is the maximum legal speed when towing anyway? I thought it was slower then 100.
Some people say less talk more action, i say more torque less traction.
well the officer said from the skid marks we wernt speeding, soo it could have been around 90km/h?
it was a 110km/h zone tho and we werent doing that, it was a braking trailer aswell sooo i dunno, the officer inspected the marks and everything and didnt say anything about speed just said tandom trailers are notorious for this and he said we were lucky that no one was killed
That sucks big time!!!! Lucky no one was hurt!!
Whats the go with insurance??
insurance needs to verify that i own the car, but they're pretty sure it will cover my car as it wasnt driving it was just collateral damage caused by the 4wd loosing control... soo looks like i might have insurance wanted to eat my car.. then ive gotta try and get it back before they take my car thats worth 6k in parts and give me 2k for it :P
Sorry to hear about the accident, glad you are all OK.
Devastated!!! But hey at least you might be upgrading to a VL![]()
sorry bout ya car mate =[ was tidy as, anywho...
how much for the mags shipped to 4650 qld?
not for sale, may aswell keep them as burnout rims now they're scratched hardcore
so now im without a car, 100km away from civilization... damn, flame me all you want but im looking at buying a tx5 turbo 5 speed as a daily and getting a vl to play swapsies with
This may be a stupid question, but was it even tied/chained on??? Or were you just usuing the winch to hold it on??
more carnage shots

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
- Theodor Seuss Geisel
Yes Minux, i never ever trust the winch on a trailer to hold a car down. I either use 4 chains or 4 ratchet tie downs, one on each corner!
That looks hardcore damage, lucky no one hurt
yeah. the car should ahve been tied down. it would not have come off then.. i think it happened because of a combination of things. looking at the trailer. it looks like ya can't really get a car much over centre. if that is the case. that can take the weight off the back wheels of the towing car... and the towing car. are those things 4x4, front wheel drive of real wheel drive. i just can't see there being much weight on the back of those things.. and also paradox said the tyres were all that good on the trailer.
i had a trailer load of wood spin around on me when i was 16. put the old mans car through a fence. all because i didn't have enough weight on the front of the trailer..
good to hear insurance will cover it. next time ya really want the car tied down.
a couple of my mates went to melbourne to get a car. put the thing on the wrone way. so the engine was on the back. then on the wya home they sprung around.. luckily they had it tied down or they would have lost the car too. theyw ere just using a vn berlina to tow. pretty lucky they didn't hit anyone else
Big no no, you never put the car on backwards. You always want more weight over the front of the trailer than the back. If that car was on backwards, it would have been swaying like a bastard.......hence why the wind from the truck got it. The wind would have unsettled the trailer, trailer would have had a big sway and bang all over!
well we got the wobbles from the wind once before, so we decided to slow down and let the truck go ahead of us to avoid the turbullence, and apon the truck getting infront of us it just unsettled the trailer and we had no hope... either way it could have been alot worse, i reckon it was the best outcome, no one was injured and the vehicles had minimum damage for that speed
the car was on with the engine at the front of the trailer, only used the winch, had it in park and hand brake on, had the officer tells me if it was tied down with a chain it woulda rolled over and taken both cars with it, he said hes seen a coupple of bad cases,
i dont think you understand just how fast 100km/h is when you've lost control when the entire vehicle mass is around 3700-3800kg, the car was thrown off the trailor, it didnt hit the wire baracades it landed ontop of them...... in the pictures you can see the side oif the trailers demolished...from where it was thrown off
plus any force that can snap a winch line can bend a chassis, sure the chains would of held it but it would have been more mangled..
either way it came out pretty good, i can salvage most of the car and build something else
Far out.....never knew putting a car on backwards would put everything up sh*t creek(I realise u didn't do this, I just mean in general)....not that I put them on backwards, but it's definitely handy to know lol. We mostly tie the rear sway bar down to the rear of the trailer, and the front swaybar to the arm which has the winch. My uncle's trailer he welded a chain onto the winch arm for that exact reason...incase the winch lets go.
Bad luck bout it all mate....thankfully no one was hurt. Atleast ya learnt that ya should always tie the car down (if ya don't already)...even looking at that has made me think about the way we tie town cars.

which f'way is that on? tulla?
