Imagine throwing aluminium cans into your fan blades of your 5.0.Well thats what my VQ sound like at the moment.It only does it when it wants to but its very loud.I think its time for a new motor.What do you think?

I think u should throw some aluminium cans in and see if that's the problem by lisening to the sound it makes and comparing it with the other sound?

I wouldn't jump to getting a new 5litre just yet mate. If ya can't figure out the problem, take it to a decent mechanic and see what they say!

Yeah i know its due for a top end redo and it sounds very internal.Im going to the auctions tomorrow to bid on a VQ there and do a swap over.If its not dead now(motor) id say it wont be long.

Make sure you get it checked first though mate it could be the tiniest little thing. You never know!

Water pump is my opinion my mate at work has a v8 and makes a similar noise to what you say but maybe not so bad.

Not sure about the pump as its inconsistant(the noise)I might remove the fan and take it for a bit of a drive to see if its that.
I know i have valve recession and i have some sort of noise between 2800 and 3200 RPM but this is new and bloody loud.

Update on the bomb,turned out something was rolling around in the inspection cover and decided to attack the starter and in turn smashed the crap out of it.Auto was removed to find the drive plate cracked and torn in parts from what ever was flying around.No bolts were missing in the converter or drive plate and the culprit was never found.Pick it up on Monday and it will be sold soon.
