Ok, so, lets just say you live in a share house... say for uni or something.
And in this house there are 12ft celings, now!
Lets just say you were playing indoor football and then the ball hits the fluro light on the roof and breaks the end fittings but not the globe.
Then, you scale the wall to fix the fittings, but that fails, then your drunk mate tries it, misses the stud and puts his foot through the wall.
Now, lets say that you can fix the holes in the wall fine, but you have no idea what to do with the light... what would you do, if persay it was gonna cost you a few... hundred, dollars to get fixed by a certain residential services.....
hypothetically of course.. what does one do?

no, im more going for the "vn_luke, dont worry bout sump off ill just use magnets to hold shavings in place" kinda way.... diy...

lol - so you're either going to need some candle power, or make a hypothetical human house buddy pyramid (or obtain ladder) and replace some light fittings?
surely you can find some fittings on ebay or something? then read up about some electrical safety and, hypothetically (not that one would encourage this), replace the fittings yourself? - keeping in mind the dangers of stuffing with power... and that there's probably a good reason why they require qualif. elecs to do this kinda workhehe!
is the fitting broken broken? or has it just unclipped? is it a share house as in... a shared house, or is it like res housing with a main hallway and indiv. apartaments or something? do you even need a light?
share house with a main corridor to 6 rooms...
its a fluro and BOTH side clips have broken off, technically i dont need the light but it will come up with room inspections at years end...

Can you take a picture and post it?

i can have a fair crack at that....
trying to think of dodgy ways to tell them... like, ninja's did it or a bird....
lol...
geta a pic later today...

Hire an extension ladder, Kennards have them.
Poach a light fitting from another dorm

Seriously what i would do? I would blutack it into place or something so it wont fall down and looks like its still in the fittings. Create the illusion its still up there and works. Then when inspection comes around just say it mustve blown or something - "we never use it so i havent noticed"
EDIT* VN Luke, that picture is the funniest **** ive ever seen in my life, im at work and im in tears of laughter...
Well i just finished the joint filler on the walls, turns out im alot handier with plaster than i thought i was... i was confident but i didnt think it would be so good, quite proud actually
Just have to wait for that to cure, which im guessing is 12hours or something?
Might hair dryer it so i can sand and paint faster...
as for the light, im not sure what to do now, cover up or crazy lie... truth is out as ill cop a fine and im poor so no deal....
Options are:
Lie - Ninja's or a Bird
Cover Up - Attempt Fix, Blue Tac or New light...
i so should be studying, ahhhh, more important htings to worry about

How the **** did you brack the fitting and not the globe? lol. are we talking bout those long ones?
Oh just realised this is all hypothetical so why we bothering to replylol.
its all a mystery, it was a massive kick and the ball hit with incredible force, but the globe didnt smash... its insane.... i dont get it...

If ANYTHING could be explained by ninjas..... this is it!its all a mystery, it was a massive kick and the ball hit with incredible force, but the globe didnt smash... its insane.... i dont get it...
depending on what compound you used it is ideal to wait 48 hours. thats how long we wait to sand. although, it is totally up to you. how much did they sting you for materials? and how did you do it? did you bog it up or did you cut the hole square, put a new piece in and use tape on it?
Post up a picky cause im not sure what type of fitting you have. Generally light fittings are an easy fix, usually u can buy a new one from bunnings or home hardware for bout 30-40 bucks (depending on what type of fitting.)
I like the "ninja broke the light" way tho....... damn those light braking ninjas!!!!!!!
you need to hypotheticaly tell me which part of the light is broken. be it the part the tube sits in and twists, or the peice that would normaly cover the end of a fitting up.
if it's hypotheticaly the bits the tubes twist into aka the tomb stones, im sorry my friend, no help from me and i will close this thread and not help you, i will advise you to tall a electrician.
but however should it be the peice that the tubes do-not twist into. but the end cap, you can simply take the name of the fitting, and walk down to your arest auslec, lawrence and hanson, rexcel, ideal electrical, haymans, cetnaj, j r turk or switch electrical whole saler, tell them the fitting and for no-more than $10 you can be supplied with a new end cap.
there is no fix for tombstones, they are either are broken or not. no way to dogey them up, blue tack will eventualy fail.
and seriously, who in the right mind scales a plaster wall, what was your mate thinking.
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
ok,
Troy, im hesitant to tell you how i did it as youll probably laugh as i know your a professional.... ok fine, I preped area and just used a system of diagonally placed patch repair pieces. The whole wasnt really big enough to warrent new board behind etc. etc. The replacement skins worked a treat.
I then used a dual purpuce filler/joint putty to cover. Its hard as now but ill have to wait till tomorrow to sand as housemates are sleeping.
My good work = your worst day ever (in comparison anyway) im proud non the less(thinks about being a dad one day fixing **** all the time
)
ok, Garth...
im no electricain, i know you are though.
My Fluro is this:
[=========[]===]
[[---------------] ]
Now, the things that are broken, by the ninjas remember, are the two ends. The light stick? tube? has two prongs, those prongs go into a circle shaped opject with two light vaginas. This circle is housed in an plastic rectangle which extends down to holw globe in place. (see attached pic) what is what and what can i replace? and how.....
thank you.
aZk.
how the hell did you... i mean those darn ninjas brake both at teh same time? mustve been a big bloody football.....
it's screwed. Glue it all back together and make it look like it works. Failing that tell them it must have been a bird or something or just say you don't know.
I reallllllllly think you should study though, and i hope you aren't studying to be anything with too much responsibility or intelligence!
