So this afternoon i was on my way back from a trip on my bike. Anyway, i was going along the bike way, and there was this Hilux parked on it, blocking it off entirely. The guy was standing near the car, having a smoke, and i politely said to him, "just letting you know that you're actually blocking off a bikeway/footpath". Anyway, he cracked a wobbly, and i basically took off, but the thing is...there was ample space right next to the bikeway where he could've parked his car, without disadvantaging anyone or breaking the law, but instead he had to park illegally, blocking off the path.
Not a major thing, but people like that just give me the ****s...the way I see it, if you can't follow the law, then you should trade in your car for an Unlimited Yearly Bus Pass, and save money while at the same time making the roads, and the rest of the world, a better place!
Like we say here...ban low performance drivers, not high performance cars.![]()

Sure, there are lots of young people who think that impressing their mates and nearby chicks is more important than respecting the law, but then you get your fair share of old farts (like this guy) who think, "oh, i'm a perfect driver, i can do anything i want", without really thinking about what they can and cannot do.
Either way...i think you've got a good idea, with a "rewards" system for good drivers...just a shame it'll never happen![]()

my thoughts exactly. as soon as i read "Anyway, he cracked a wobbly" i was expecting the rest to continue about him getting physical.
forget about it, put it out of your mind. he will get his, oneday, hes gonna park in a loading zone or something and his hilux is gonna get munched by a truck or what have you.
but i do like the reward/punishment thing, sounds like a plan
some people think they own the roads
The thing is if you do nothing, then nothing gets done. If you just went around this fool and said nothing he would just continue on with his ignorant behavior. Having said something hopefully he will think twice about parking in an illegal position. Probably the biggest problem in any society is the silent majority. If everyone was put on notice that they are being watched and any errant behavior will be reported, then maybe it will lessen the instance of such behavior.
I don't know about other states, but WA has just implemented (or maybe it's just the south west) a register of bad driver behavior, where the public reports bad driving and the police put it all in a data base. Multiple reports of the same vehicle will result in investigation and possibly the driver being issued with a ticket.
If this is the biggest issue you have in life, then you are doing alright...

The thing is in telling him he knew he was wrong parked like that and he cracked the siits with you.i'm on the road working every week and see alot of things not right.if i were going to try and correct everything then it would need to be a full time thing.as you get older u learn to let things go as life is to short not worth the hassle..
I have to agree with zapper, is not worth your time to correct things. I know you get ****ed - hell I get ****ed a lot but I just say a couple of swear words about them to myself and move on. Trust me it feels better!
plenty of these kind of ppl round. uv jus got to ignore them. iv had ppl drive right out in front of me on a highway then i got to slam on my breaks to pull up. blast my horn at them. and they ither give u tha finger or yell a heap of abuse. that really annoyes me u know they r in tha wrong and they do to but they dont give a damn think they own the road. better jus to leave those kinda things ppl like that r jus lookin for someone to complain so they can start a fight
Just read this thread and about the reward/punishment thing. I heard som1 eelse say that doubt it would eva happen and i agree. But i was thinking i reckon if all members of JC agrees to this i reckon we can do somthing about it.
If the admin or a mod was to write a letter stating somthing about that and we were all to sign it. Well we cant sign it but we can som how write somthing then after that once everyone has agreed to it. We can then email it to the important person of the law.
Would that work?
We would need to get an MP on board as well, so they can lobby for it.
The rewards bit where time is taken off your restrictions period may not work, but maybe a points system that gives you a rebate towards licensing or insurance. There is surely enough money generated from speed and redlight cameras to provide some funding for that. It already goes towards driver training programs (Roadskills is one) so how about a driver rewards program. Penalties during a P plate period can be added time, or added premiums. This could turn into something.
Hands up all those people who havnt' broken the law in some way . Hmmmm not too many . We all do it whether it be going just a few kays over the limit , change lanes without indicating , or reversing out of your driveway or pulling away from the kerb without indicating. We all do it so get over it .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
Thats not the point. What we would like to see is a change in driver attitude. Having a system that rewards good driver behavior while they are in their formative years can only result in a better road going experience for us all. I bet it was you in parked across the cycleway....lol.
so anytime someone does something wrong we should all turn the other cheek... just in case they decide to get violent, what a great society we live in that its come to that hey? That will ensure that the dumbarses will inherit the earth, afterall might is right.
I like the rewards and punishment idea, I think the reward would be easier to implement than a lot of people including the government realise...
discount registration for drivers who dont incur traffic notices, as I would think that safer drivers should get a small discount on their TAC premium. Afterall the rest of the insurance industry factors driving history into its premium calculations.
What a **** weak society we are that can stand by and let others do as they wish, even petty as it may seem. I realise there is a risk involved, but I just find it frustrating that people get away with rude and ignorant behavior because we are too **** scared to say anything. I may be posting from a hospital bed soon, but I've had enough...I'm going to start speaking up where I can.
