For over 2 years I've been looking at cars for sale on Ebay and I find that people have dints in their cars.
It's a DENT - A DENT not a dint
What is a dint???
Anyone come up with why people call them dints?

i have been asking myself the same question as well, maybe dent is just an sa thing lol
lol, could be the same reason some people say 'thus' instead of 'this' ^^
I never understood it myself.

I also find myself saying 'dint' because other people say it too.
Considering the dictionary states that a dint is a dent..does it really matter word is used?
When do people substitute thus for this? It is certainly something i haven't come across thus far.

definitions I found:
1 : to make a dent in
2 : to impress or drive in with force
looks like dent + in = dint
I usually say dint, prob caus of the two middle letters being "in"
Dent is short for indentation or indent.
Dint is the act of denting a car. (just used the dictionary)
So when someone says they have a dint what they mean is that someone is out smashing up the car![]()

hows the real way to say it?
I pronounce it DINT and sometimes write it like that too but I know its supposed to be dent. I'm not going to let an I replacing an E stress me out. Adelaidians probably do pronounce it DENT since they are all English anyway

if dint is a inward dent, is an outward one a dunt?

It's funny if someone was in Victoria and said dude I dented my car they would get some funny looks and a few people would be saying, You silly New Zealander:P do you want some fosh and cheeps too
From the good book on words I have, Dint is the act of denting.
