Default If the next model of Commodore was FWD would you buy it?

A interesting question that needs to be addressed, i think.

A mate of mine and me were discussing the 380 and we both came to the conclusion that if it was RWD it would of been more sucessful because Ford and Holden both have big RWD cars.

So if Holden were to release the next Commie as a FWD car would you buy it?
    We got rep back, yaaay!

nope. never liked the thought of FWD. think about it.. when you accelerate.. where does the weight bias of the car go? to the rear! = most traction with RWD.

only good part about a FWD is that you can steer with the front wheels spinning

Just ask Mitsubishi, the 380 is a good car, but it's fwd and I've seen about 3 of them in my life :P, you can't sell big fwd family cars in Australia. Foxman you can steer alot better with the back wheels spinning in a rwd car:P

The Aurion is doing alright but it has something the 380 doesn't, the Toyota badge.

i drive Mitz Magna, i B***y wish they made their large cars rwd its reallly annoying, for some reason i don't like the 380 at all, 380 should've been rwd , that was bigest miktake Mitz doing to the 380, plus this is the annoying part, every single 380 in Australia has excactly the same power 175Kw compared the third gen magna range

had the following power in them

    3.0 - 140kw 255 N·m
    3.5 150 kW , 300 nm
    Vrx 163kw, 317nm
    Rallart 180kw, 333Nm

, but the 380 only got one power through out the whole range, its very disappointing.

Nope, i wouldn't bother...a wrong-wheel drive Holden just isn't a real Holden, IMHO! The only advantage that wrong-wheel drive cars really have over RWD cars is that when they're old and worthless you can do this to 'em

    thats classic!

but i would be turned off a commodore if it did go FF, it just wouldn't be the same without its nice FR layout.

and agree with most of above, if the 380 or aurion were FR they most likely would of done somewhat better

You can't steer a FWD car with the wheels spinning, it just goes straight still.

Don't 4wd have better grip and acceleration. Never driven one so I can't tell whether its good or not.

What about WRX's, they are pretty damn fast.

'Rexes are AWD, not FWD. Anyway, i personally prefer RWD...if you've driven a wrong-wheel drive car enough, you'll know all too well that the front wheels just can't handle having to do the steering, as well as handling 100 or so kw (assuming we're talking about a common garden variety rice burner) all at once.

FWD cars have their limitations to speed and torque. Have a look at a test drive of the new Aurion TRD. The amount of torque steer on that thing is enough to scare me off ever getting in one.
Sadly the last of the AWD magnas were one of the best value cars made at the time, and the resale values of them at the moment are proving that. One of the worst things MMAL did was drop the AWD from their local lineup. Rumour has it though there are some 380's getting around with an AWD setup, they just need the cash and blessing from Japan to get it into production. I doubt that will ever happen in the local plant though.

What about the AWD version Mitsubishi released. Would you buy that and in turn get an AWD Commie???
