    Default HSV vs SS

just a thought i had today,
for those of you who bought an SS (wether it was new or second hand) what stopped you going for a HSV (malloo, clubbie, GTS etc)??

well mate, i'm the opposite - i bought an HSV instead of an SS because of the price...i've got an 04 VY2 clubby and was 3 K more than an 05 VZ SS and the clubby had 10 thou km's less, for features and performance i justified the 3 k extra spent...

but if i went the SS i would've had 3 k to spend on mods...so in the end no real difference, because i like both cars

Its amazing how many small differences the HSV has over the SS. When i was looking across the range from VY to VE at SS's every time i looked at a HSV i was impressed by the subtle differences. I had every intention of buying a new SS-V and was all set to do so. Until i seen my Sig get pulled into the yard while looking at an SS-V, figured it was different and would leave me alot of left over $$ to spend on it at a later date. Glad i did now, i am still yet to see another Senator Signature on the road.

Well as some may or may not know im currently saving for a VS Clubsport, and this same question popped into my head when looking for prices. Most VS SS's ive seen are around 9-11 grand, obviously some are a lot cheaper but those are the ones that are manual, lowish k's and in decent nick. Looking across to the Clubsport, i have to pay 2-3 grand more for the same yardsticks, manual, lowish k's and decent condition.

My reasoning behind a HSV is simple. Little more power, little more comfort, a better looking kit and the "exclusiveness" of owning a Holden Special Vechile... and also the fact that ive wanted a Clubsport since i was like 13.

I picked my old VS Senator over a VS SS because it had a sunroof, full leather trim with front sports seats, climate control, Berlina spec features, better suspension/wheels, and a lot of other extras. Oh and it's a HSV Senator.

    I couldn't see $20k difference between the R8 and my SS-V.

I bought a VU SS... I wouldn't ever get a HSV VU Maloo over the SS because I hate the rice factor the maloo has... the kit is awful and chunky and I hate the number plate on the tailgate. Only great thing about the maloo = resale $$$, however with this in mind the utes hold their value well anyway.

Sorry if any Maloo owners are reading this, it's just my personal opinion.

Disagree there, i think the SS-V looks much nicer light wise. Also, the VE series of HSV's look very bland, i mean the senator you have to look twice to notice it. On a whole, the VE HSV series could of looked so much better.

About $1500 rrp in parts (at a guess) and a weekend to paint/install them.

With my budget it was either buy a good condition SS with a bit of work done, or buy a clubsport that had some problems. No comparison really.

Plus the insurance is steep on an SS, I'd hate to see what it's like for a HSV.

I saw one up near my house a few weeks back, it was black.

And furthermore, i would have made the same decision as you. Very nice choice indeed, they are very sleek and slick looking cars, i'm not a fan of the VY shape, but the senator / senator signature just makes the bodyshape look sleek.

availability for me. Plus i wanted a crewy and how long would i have to wait. I like my ss and it came with a 5 year warrenty so why would i travel just to get a hsv? dont know just seemed to make sense. I can sit on the speed limit all day towing a car trailer and thats all the power i need.

    ABSOLUTELY F**KING NOTHING!!!!

    i got both!

you notice little things that the HSV spec ones have that the normal ones dont have, like badges in funny places, build plates, knowing your vehicle's build number is in the hundread's not hundread thousands,

i was looking for a few weeks, vn 5ltr's, vn ss's and VP ss's and none of them appealed especially for their price, then i found this one for a little bit more than all the others hsv spec, soo i offered him what i thought was a good price and he took it

either way, its nice to own something knowing that it came outta the factory like that, like when i had my calais, trip comp, cruize , power windows come as a standard, was a nice ride.. still SS's are quick and the clubbys are just that 100kg heavier and it makes a diffrence unless you start packing more powa

is it fairly easy 2 fit the VE HSV lights to a lower model?? direct fit??
minux i agree with you in the senator range for the VE, looks very similar to calais/caprice... not that well done. as for ve clubbies and GTS love em, i think there perfectly done not over the top yet substancialy different to the other models.
