Default Ben Cousins on Drug Charges

Ben Cousins charged with drug possession | Herald Sun

Am I naive or is the guy just totally daft? He has a gift that is one in a million yet goes out of his way to **** it all up. Many kids dedicate their entire teen lives with the single goal of playing AFL yet only a relative handful even get drafted let alone a game. This fool could have been looked at in the future in a similar school as Buckley, Hird and other such greats but now will be nothing more than another weak junkie who was hellbent on ****ing over all those that invested their time and energy trying to help him.

Although i am deadset against drugs etc, i hate how the media broadcast it all so widely.

Since when do police make amedia statement for catching any other person in possession?

I know he is a celebrity because he plays footy etc, but playing football shouldn't make you a role model etc.

I dunno, im a little tied over this. One on hadn i hate the drug side, on the other, if he were you or I it wouldn't even rate a mention.

The thing that bothers me about all this is when he made his home ground comeback everyone cheered and screamed for him like he was a hero. He got done for drugs and he's a hero? People need to be careful who they look up too.

I call it a side effect of his chosen profession. You and I aren't on the best part of $1mill a year and don't have "Demi-god" status in our city.

I can't help thinking this is only round 1 and there is a lot more to come out over the coming days/weeks.

drug addiction is a terrible and scary thing. i feel for the guy. his footy career looks finished and he's probably losing control, which is a terrifying thing if you've ever been there.

He never got caught or charged with possession or drug use... He put himself into a rehabilitation clinic.

He was an is an excellent football player, IMO his associations in his off-field life is what caused his downfall. Its the general consensis in Perth that the 'underworld figure' Kizon owns Benny's ass.

Wow, whoever would have thought that the guy would still be getting caked, particularly after alll that hard rehab (or re-tox ) in Los Angeles! lol

Who really cares anyway? - Some guy is stupid enough to ruin his carreer, so let him! I'm sure a few thousand other people have already done so this year in Australia alone

I doubt his career is ruined. If eagles drop him there are 15 other teams who would take him on.

Ben Cousins? The same guy who got done for avoiding an RBT by dumping his car and doing a runner?

AFL star Ben Cousins has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug, WA police said tonight.

Cousins, 29, has also been charged with one count of failing to comply with a requirement to provide blood.

Cousins walked out of major crime headquarters at Curtin House through a rear exit just minutes after police issued a statement announcing the charges. He made no comment to waiting media.

In a statement tonight, police said they stopped Cousins' vehicle on Newcastle St, Perth around 11.30am (WST) after he came to their attention "due to the manner of his driving."

They allegedly found a quantity of prohibited drugs after searching the four-wheel drive vehicle.

The West Coast Eagles' midfielder was taken for questioning to the Traffic Enforcement Group headquarters in East Perth.

Police will allege Cousins failed to provide a sample of his blood for analysis.

He will appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

The club put out a brief statement after the charges were announced.

"The West Coast Eagles wish to advise that the club is not in a position to make any statement regarding Ben Cousins and Daniel Chick being questioned by police," the statement said.

"The police have advised the club that they will detail the circumstances of the interviews at the appropriate time and until then no club official will be available to the media.
has anyone else noted that it does not state what drug he had in his possesion? i mean, dont get me wrong... it probably is coke or something.. but there is also still a chance he had some sort 'not so harmful' perscription meds or roids.

either way, he is a dumbarse and obviously hasnt learnt.

Im sick of hearing about it already! He deserves what he gets and i hope they throw the book at him. What sort of message is it sending when the AFL and the teams give their players second and in this case a third chance (if he gets off easy) for drug charges.

Erm, could you alert us to the first and second chances for charges that cousins faced? This is the first time cousins has been found in possession or use of drugs by the police. Accordingly he will be charged like a first offence.

Sganro didn't say he had been charged more than once. Ben's record is pretty pathetic really.

Ben Cousins has been into the drug culture for a long time and is known to associate with Perth underworld figures. He has been caught out lying about both of these matters.

In 2006 when confronted with a breath-testing station he abandoned his car and fled from Police. Only a couple of months ago he went on national tv telling Australia that he has overcome his drug problem and pledged to stay clean and do whatever is necessary to rebuild his reputation.

I think this is a guy who will say and do anything just to get himself out of the **** (at the time) and has little regard for those who have stuck their necks out for him.

    Cool

well im a west coast fan always have been always will be but my stance on drugs (im not a wowser) is no tolerance
i dont care who these guys play for if they have drugs in the system it should be one strike your out
they get paid sh*t loads to play so why the drugs anyway?
they are supposed to be role models for kids hell id rather my sons (both under three) look up to the undertaker or some other semi ficticious character than a footy or sport player who thinks that they can do what they want when they want
maybe its time we somehow let these sport types know how people feel and that the (so called) drug and testing board needs to get tougher
and how come they always get lighter sentences and fines for being jerks than you or i would

The thing I find particulary interesting - is that he apparently got pulled over by two police cars, had the car searched for 2 hours, and then was eventually in the "major crime headquarters"......... (information gathered from various stupid news reports that I couldn't avoid while watching TV and aforementioned article)

It certainly doesn't sound like he just had a baggie of <insert chosen drug name here>.... and happened to get pulled over at the wrong time for a traffic stop

    - I mean - 2 police cars and a 2 hour search? they KNEW he was carrying- hence he must have been of enough interest to the coppers to be monitored..... which to me says that he's up to some shifty business

In either case, general consensus seems to be that he's a shifty bastard.... and I suppose this beats news of kittens stuck in trees.

if someone robs an old lady, i demand they be punished.
but if someone decides to get loaded, that's their issue.

the problem for cousins is he was driving at the time and allegedly refused a drug test. driving under the influence is putting others' lives at risk.

i feel sorry for him, as has been said, chris was his mentor. and when ya loose something of that stature, u tend to go off the rails abit.

Its like breaking up with a chick that u have been with for a long time, and as soon as she has gone u go all weird, becoz u dont have a clue whats going on or what to do.

If the eagles get rid of him, which i hope they dont, as he is a great player. Id like to see him come over to victoria, and play with the saints. He would be great for the club.

I hate seeing it all over the papers, and the word DRUG getting branded all over it. Kids do look up to him, and as soon as they see the words, they're guna ask what it was... and then thin "well if cousins can take it, then i can too"
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.

Wasn't it part of his contract that if he had any more drug related incidents that he'd be dropped from the AFL, not just the eagles?

I'm pretty sure the AFL will be pretty keen to make an example of him after its the 2nd incident.
