So I heard on the radio this morning that apparently the Chasers are in hot water again after a song they did last night about dead celebrities (Steve Irwin, Peter Brock, John Lennon, Kerry Packer and Princess Diana to name a few). Did anyone here watch it?

Im getting over the chasers now. Im finding myself laughing less and less on the occasions when i do tune in.

Yeah I watched it. I thought it was pretty funny, but it would definitely offend.
It went something like
"My grandfather passed away lately. I never liked him, no one did actually, but as soon as he died he was everyone's hero.....
Yes even pricks turn into top blokes after death.
[A ramble about steve irwin]
Brocky was some revhead, who pumped the air with pure lead, so anti-green he drove into a tree
But all that was forgotten once they took their final breath, yes even tools turn into top blokes after death."
And it goes on and on
You can download the episode at http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/tv/chase..._2007_ep20.wmv
If you want.
They do that sort of crap because it gains them ratings and media attention. Every time other stations do reports on them its free advertising.
I understand the irony they were trying to make light of but the names mentioned were in very poor taste. Most of the people mentioned were not the bastards & wankers (etc) that was portrayed and mentioning Belinda Emmett was just disgusting.
Reaper
It was quite funny but but its pretty much borderline in terms of mentioning those names especially Emmett.
They don't mean it though, after all its just entertainment, shouldn't be taken seriously anyway.
I think the chasers should be shot, what a bunch of dickwoads, especially disgracing great idols such as Steve Irwin and Peter Brock. As for putting down Belinda Emmett, well they have just shot themselves in their hearts and probably will make ABC a very dimmed channel to watch. Because now I can't wait to watch the next episode of Rove Live, I hope he flames them down to a crisp low down piece of sh1t.
Yours Kindly,
Jim
I just watched it and didn't see them insult Belinda Emmett, he stopped after mentioning her name without continuing as the other guys were 'urging' him to stop because it was going too far even though it was obvious he was never going to say anything about her. Pretty stupid and tasteless but that pretty much sums up the entire show hey? I think he probably insulted Stan Zemanek and Princess Di the worse, what he sang about Brocky and Irwin were weak in comparision.

i like the chasers war... they are a funny bunch of blokes, prob the funniest thing on tv in in the past 12 months. rove is ****, and i ant really remember any other shows.
Ok, maybe the went a LITTLE bit far with the song they sung, but jesus, if people are going to complain abt this, then what abt all the jokes that get told to everyone.. eg: the brocky jokes, the irwin jokes, princess di jokes....
I think the australian people need to lighten up abit.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
The inference was that the joke had gone too far with Belinda Emmett so they should stop. They push boundaries, but they didn't insult Emmett. Brock, Irwin, Zemanek, Diana, Lennon probably, but the mention of Emmett indicates that it was all in jest. It's satire, some people are going to get upset, its just the nature of the type of humour.
apparently abc only got 6 calls last night. 3 positive. all the other complaints were this morning from people that didnt watch the show, but were encouraged to call and complain by a radio host

Dont watch them - dont care what they say - its just topicl fun right - entertainment.
Comedians will always push the boudries - that what makes it funny.
We all laught at someone who hits their funny bone - even though we know it hurts. It's just funny becuase we didn't do it - they did.
I must be getting old.Next thing I'll be getting grumpy.

The Belinda part was very tongue-in-cheek and personally I agree with the entire song;
Steve Irwin was a tool. Princess Di was so overrated. Peter Brock was
overrated. Don Bradman was snobby and grumpy. Etc etc.
Made me laugh til I cried. Very Australian humour!![]()
Meh i watched it, i found it funny because i can see the truth in it, not particularily those people they mentioned but in general. Theres a lot of people, espically those in the public eye that are arseholes, yet when they die they are the greatest figure to grace the earth.
I say good on them for not being so soft and cuddly.
They did mention Belinda, but didnt say anything about her as one of the chasers stopped it.
I watch their show mainly because its on before Summer Heights High...
People need to lighten up. Society today is all about being politically correct. Lets go back to the old days were words could be said for a laugh and forgotten soon after.
