    Default Tamiya RC Cars

Just wondering if anyone has any original Tamiya RC Cars?

If so is anyone interested in selling? I am specifically after Wild ones or a Hornet.

    Also anybody into this still?

I think I've got a Madcap (?) lying around in the shed somewhere that I haven't used for years, I'd have to dig it out and see if it still had all it's bits and pieces
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

I got a couple Frogs in bits and a complete Hilux and um few others that a really dead. I had those before I was seriously into my racing and bought a RC10 team car and a Losi, I had a Optima mid too, they make Hornets again now you know? they were rubbish anyway, the gearboxes used to allways crack open :P. is the wild one much different to the fast attack? my friend had the fast attack :O that was a nice looking thing

    Default Tamiya...

Funny that, after 2 years of sitting in the shed, I had mine out last week, found them in a box with spares and all, ended up fitting a new battery to the hornet, after adding the new motor I found in the box, still in its packet with a price tag of $250 from a few years ago, I was like wtf, cant remember buying this motor... anyway, fitted it, drove it (fly's) smashed it after a huge out of control drift on concrete, and it broke in half........ Oh well, she's on the work bench for a re fab when I have the time... Also found Calsonic Skyline 4wd and a Black 4wd mercedes, I'm a kid again...lol.

When i was younger i had a hornet. A couple of my mates had super hornets (super hornets were the newer, super duper ones, i was always jealous cos i only had the hornet lol. Back then that was like the difference between a ford and a ferrari . )

Anyways, im not 100% sure but i think i still have the hornet packed away back at home. Not sure if the servos and stuff would work though.

And i was actually thinking of getting another RC car. I want to go petrol this time though. The electrics just dont cut it. Had a bit of a browse on the net but havnt seen much that i like.

Nitro cars are crap, they run like dogs need constant tuning, break easy. Spend a bit of cash on an elec car and you can make them pretty damn quick.

So people know, the below image is a Wild One, if you own one please sell it to me.

Fair enough. When i had the old hornet, the electrics werent very quick and a mate got a nitro car that went like the clappers. I havnt had anything to do with RC cars for quite a few years now so im not really up with the abilities of petrol/electric

Hahaha My brother had a hornet when we were kids. I've got a 1/8 scale methenol off road racer now. *Magnificent* on golf courses
You can't be doing it right Minux - 2 pulls and it starts and will run a full tank before stopping. It can stop and idle nicely all day if I wanted to. Haven't adjusted the mixtures or anything beyond when I first set it up.

I had one of them. I think I still may have it somewhere now you mention it. The suspension sucked but the machine gun made up for all of that. It looks identical to Minux' pic except as you mentioned it has the army thing happening. Having dinner at mums tomorrow - I'll have a look and see if I can find it.

I allways liked the electric cars better than nitro, I've never seen any real evidence that nitro cars are any faster than a good electric one, even back in 1994?ish electric buggies were doing about 70-80 km/h on dirt tracks with almost instant acceleration and both batteries and motors are much better now. I think it's because of these early days with rc cars that I'm such a fan of high performance full size electric cars , sooooooo much better and faster than petrol and can't be many years away now

about 2 years ago i built a newer all wheel drive tamiya wrx. Had a super stock tricked out motor, ball bearings and a few other go fast bits on it. Good fun but a pain in the ass to keep maintained. It sits here gathering dust now haha

id have to see what parts i have.. i might even have enough for two cars. One of them from memory suffers from a dodgy mechanical speed controller and the other i think is all fine except that it needs rebuilding. I'll pull em out after I'm done with uni in a few weeks and get back to ya.

I had a nitro powered NISMO Skyline a few years back. The stock Tamyia engines were pretty crap. But the aftermarket nitro engines were something to behold. Add an aftermarket 2 speed gearbox and you've got instant acceleration and increadible speed. Best place to find a early model Tamyia would be on ebay. Even more chance of finding one over in the US and would only cost you maybe $60 postage at most. You're probably not a fan of ebay but something to consider.

Update... I see they they're re-issued the original ones so why not buy one brand new?

Here's a few that might interest you...

Tamiya - The Grasshopper - Re- Issue 58346 - eBay Cars, Cars, Land Vehicles, Radio Control, Toys, Hobbies. (end time 24-Oct-07 12:46:22 AEST)

My Dad bought me a Grasshopper in 1985! It only had the 380 motor in it but it was fast enough then (I was only 6!). I sold it about 10 years back to get a Kyosho 4WD and then regretted it. I've just bought a Grasshopper re-release and fitted it with ball bearings and a 540 sport tuned motor. Just waiting for my battery to arrive and then I can't wait to see how it goes.

Haven't Tamiya re-released the Wild One yet? Seems a shame if they aren't going to.

Lol at the heatsink for the speed controller on that eBay Grasshopper. I remember burning myself a couple of times on my one!

cant find a rerelease for the wild on on the tamiya site, so i guess not yet. only a matter of time hopefully.

dad bought me a tamiya hotshot when i was born, in 85, when it was first released(read bought it for himself with me as the excuse )

had a mate make custom durelium wheels for it, coz the stock ones rubbed on the wishbones and flattened the screw heads. supershot style 4 shock suspension(diy using a spare set of hotshot shocks, ko-propo elec speed controller with reverse, which he blew, so only had forward, kyosho 480 motor with adjustable timing. still got that. he had 2 cars at one stage, but one of the dogs chewed one when i was a wee lad). now it sits in bits in a box. mostly there, lots of broken front knuckles, lol.

im looking at getting the re release in a little while a dropping the wheels, ball bearings, motor, new esc and such into it and have some fun!!

Here's a old video of me racing my associated rc 10 team car, which was the first one with the stealth gearbox and this model rc10 won the world championship that year. Mine was (is) an exact copy of Masami Hirosaka's championship winning car (same chasis lightening etc) mine was about 1 gram over the legal limit. I used to race in the stock class, which ment you needed to run a 27? turn motor, it was the slowest class back in the day but the most popular, I ran SCR 1400 batteries and a "slot machine" stock class motor which was the best motor at the time, such old tech these days . But all the suspension arms on the car are titanium and the chassis is aircraft alloy, you could get a graphite chasis also but the alloy one was faster because it flexed and the alloy chasis was quicker over bumps. I don't even know what year this was but it was maybe early or mid 90's

i started with a nitro rc tourer and yeh found it too be very unreliable constantly spending alot off cash on it.Went off them when i set myself on fire with the nitros methane lol woops.
Moved onto electric and started racing it weekly love them there great fun and alot easier too make a quick car.Just now iv got a Yokomo mr with custom carbon fibre chassis goes very well lol.
