Ive found a nice car that i can afford (plus have sum $$ left over), only problem is its 350kms away
So my question to all you car enthusiasts is would you travel that far for a car?
The car im interested in is:
1996 HSV SENATOR VS 185i
237,000kms
cherry black
leather wrap around seats
sunroof
19 inch speddy rims
pioneer cd player with 2 12 inch sony subs with amp
diff was rebuilt in march 07 and upgraded diff ratio to 3.45:1
alternater and front brake rotors replaced may 07
twin 2 1/2 into single 3 inch exhaust
detailed engine bay
Few questions also for you HSV buffs (or senator owners) car has 215i stickers but in description states 185i... im guessing there may not be a selection for the 215i? Also is this a stroker?
Also its $10 000 do you reckon thats too steep for that many kms (given its a senator.....)
Thanx in advance for ur responses![]()
I bought my car from Melbourne and im located 4 hours north of Brisbane in QLD. I was going to fly down and drive her back, but I evened up getting VP Luke to check her out for me and then bought it without even seeing it.
The kays seem a tad high ont he VS.
I just saw that this VP Senator 5000i is for sale for very cheap $7,500!!!
HERE
200kw engine
Number Built: 136 + 30 5th Anniversary
So the VP is a little more rare.
On the VS INFO
the 185 is the 5.0L and the 215 is the 5.7L stroker.
Have a look here
As stated above, the 215 Senator was a stroked version, Ive been looking for one myself and its hard to find one in decent nick and lowish kays. However for 10 grand i doubt it is a 215 as most of them go for about 15 even with the amount of kms it has. 350 ks away isnt that far away, so i would say definallty go check it out, if its decent nick its a pretty good find at 10 grand, the only thing that scares me is those amount of k's. If it is a 185 model, you can always stroke it to 355 and rebuild![]()
when i have to travel for something i add the price of travel to the price of the item and see if its worth that total. I travelled 500 kays for a motorbike, 700 for a vs.
If you think its worth it dont worry about what anybody else thinks and just remember it is a HSV.
heres my ride, i know its not much but its mine

yeah bro 350 klms is nothin , if its on highway itys only about 3 hrs each way, make a day of it.
yeah 350km's is not that far, i drove 300km's once to look at a car and it was a heap of ****, rust, broken bits everywhere, worn out parts everywhere suspension and brake wise. on the 300km trip back home i was pretty dissappointed, until there sitting on the side of the road, was a car that was absolutely everything i wanted except it was an auto and i wanted a 5 speed, but after driving it i couldn't refuse it and bought it on the spot, also was way less than the other car and way better. so go for it and see what happens.
I traveled about almost 300kms to get my VS. It ain't too far, just enjoy the drive.
bah 350ks, if me and my mates go cruisin thru the mountains around victoria on a weekend we do way more than that in a night, ok you have to double it to get home, but if its the car you want then go for it man
I have bought boats interstate and sold cars interstate many times. For a car like you are looking for you need to be prepared to travel unless you are very lucky.
Reaper
dad and a mate flew up to QLD from canberra one morning, bought a corvette and drove it home all in one day
350k's is nothing, wouldnt even put it into the equation if the car is what you want. I did a near 800 k round trip just to pick up my VK lol. A mate of mine recently went to sydney to pick up a 4wd he had never seen, he left at 2 in the morning and returned at 1:15am the next day. Yes he drove nearly 24 hours straight just for a car, and only stopped once (for food) and oviously to pick the car up.
Cheers Tom
If you're really serious about the car and they will hold it for you to go have a look I'd organise to have racq to do an inspection at the same time.
i flew to brisbane from canberra airport and drive back 1200ks to goulburn for my calais lol
350ks is nothing thats like a sunday drive lol
wrecking VL COMMODORE 5 speed
FOR SALE : supra 5 speed box suite holden v8 $800
we bought our vt having only seen photos, threw it on a truck 2000 odd km home. all up it cost less than buying local, so really the distance you'd reasonably travel for a car changes wherever you live
