Default Smashing start to V8 Supercar series

Im happy the HRT cars stayed on the truck, but its a bit of a bad way to start the race weekend.

Still the jokes begin ... Ford, cant even stay on a tow truck properly!!!!

The Bahrain round of the V8s Supercar series got off to a smashing start today when several cars were damaged when a truck transporting them to the track was involved in an accident.

After the carnage of the last round on the Gold Coast, most teams would have been hoping for a smooth start to this round.

But it is believed that truck carrying Ford Performance Racing cars of Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards and the Holden Racing Team's cars of Mark Scaife and Todd Kelly were on the truck.

A V8 Supercars spokesman said he believed that the truck was cut off by a four-wheel drive as it neared the Bahrain International Circuit, where this week's round is being held.

It was not clear how much damage was done to the cars, but it is believed that one of the cars fell from the truck and another went into the back of the truck's cabin.

None of the cars belong to this year's championship contenders. The V8s championship has come down to a battle between Jamie Whincup (501), Garth Tander (492), Craig Lowndes (473) and Rick Kelly (466).

Dam, what a shame. Pity it wasn't the 888 cars instead though.

Saw this in the paper this morning and they reckon all cars are damaged and may not be able to race. Yep, even Skaifes and Kellys car, I hope it's all good for the race. Finger crossed.

Read on another forum that they are going to send the parts over needed to fix the cars (or replace the parts they'll use from the small supply they have)

As in the rules, it states that each team can have certain parts for the race, since it wasn't the race, they'll be sending the parts needed (apparently the circuit has facilities to fix roll cages and panels etc)
Only thing is, these parts wont get there until after race 1, so hopefully everything that is damaged can be fixed with what they have with the cars.
