    Lightbulb Lowering?

Found these things on egay that lower your car by pulling coils of your springs almost together. From the large pool of brain power here at J.C i was wondering if they would work: if they are gay or just plain crap. Would only be using them for cruising (occasionally). Saves me 400 schmakoolies and keeps the insurance company happy.

    Bwahahahah...

VERY VERY VERY UNSAFE. Don't even think about it. Do a search on chopping springs, you'll find tomes of literature about it.

Basically, it makes your car very unsafe and a bitch to drive. Your springs can (and probably will) fall out any time. It will invalidate any comprehensive or third party insurance you may have. It will also give plod the right to shove a tennis racket up your behind (not the handle) twist it around a bit (without lube) and then defect you.

Is $400 worth the huge amount of potential trouble it can very easily cause? You tell me.

BTW, I'm assuming you're talking about something that will assist you in chopping coils of your springs. If you want, just get a welder to do it.

But springs sell for about the $200 mark on eBay. Brand new lowered springs for your whole car.

Going but what he said, its more likely a device similar to a spring compressor for removing springs, like the clamps you use to remove springs from struts....

I dont actually know how that would work... as soon as the spring compressed pased the comressor, it would fall off the spring.... hmmm.... got a link to the item on ebay mate?

I think it would just be a spring clamp... same sorta thing used to take springs out....

I can see alot of issues arising bu using this as the spring would only function properly below and above the clamp points, in between it would be under contant strain.

There is another issue i can see with rebound which i really can't be bothered trying to explain.

The chance of the clamp actaully falling off would be slim i would imaging as the spring would have to compress a ridiculous amount...

But the moral of the story...

There is never a cheap way... there is only the proper way...

I can also see alot of cops seeing it and asking "WTF is that" followed but a defect notice cause their not sure its legal...

Also dunno if your insurance company would be happy as your compromising the performace of the suspension...

I recon if your gonna do something, just do it properly and save yourself a whole lot of "what if's" and possibly save yourself from wrapping around a tree

Cool! That thought is definitely on the scrap heap. Will check out the proper lowering springs and get it done properly the 1st time. Thanks to all for the advice.

Those things have been around for years . You can also buy ones for raising your car, They look like big chunks of rubber with grooves cut in them contoured to suit your springs . You just jack the body up and when your springs expand you put them inbetween your coils .Instant 4WD
