Hello boys and girls,
I have the opportunity of buying a car. The problem is the seller has the car in Sydney and he is currently overseas as he is looking for a house in London. He states he is waiting for a serious buyer before he returns to sell his car.
He is suggesting the use of BidPay or similar to finalise the transaction. I have never used this before.
Can anyone give me some advice on how not to get dudded or whether there is a better option?
Cheers, Rod.
It's just a payment delivery system, which doesn't have much use for two people buying and selling a car.
Does he want you to pay the deposit or pay for the car? Surely you can just transfer the money into his account or deposit the cash into his account (with his BSB + ACCT#) and he can confirm it using his online banking.
If you're only paying a couple of hundred as a deposit, BidPay would make a bit of sense. But much better options exist.
What are the specifics of the situation?
Thanks for the replies people, turns out it is a scam, i contacted carsales.com.au and they confirmed they had removed the add as it was a scam. Here's the spec:
Hello there,
First of all I want to thank you for the interest that you have shown for my car. The 2004 HSV CLUBSPORT Y Series 2 is in excellent condition and was not involved in any car accidents. The car is registered in Australia, has a CLEAR and CLEAN TITLE and you will not have any problems to register the car in your name. If you are interested in buying it, the price is $12,000 AUD. I know that this is a low price for such a good car, but I need to buy a house and I decided to sell my car. I hope that you will agree with my price and there will not be any argues regarding my price. I would like to complete this transaction asap, cause I need money asap and I don't have so much time at my disposal. If you have any other questions, please reply me.
Regards,
Rhoda
Hello Rod,
Thank you for your reply. At this moment I'm in London, United Kingdom, where I am looking to buy a house because I will leave Australia to UK definitely. I am selling my car because I don't need it anymore here in UK (due the high shipping fees and very high import duties and all the restrictions regarding registration and emissions tests). The car is in the garage of my house that I have lived in until I have moved here in London. I have already sold my house and I need to come back in Australia to give the house and the papers of the house to the buyer of my house, and then I need to sell my car too. But I have told to the buyer of the house that I will not come back in Australia, until I have a serious buyer for my car. I had some discussions with BidPay and they told me that they can help me and you to finalize this transaction fast and safe.
Here are the car details:
VIN 6G1YK54F64L271766
Registration TEO57L expires 07/08
Engine number: VF040491127
If you are interested to have more details from BidPay about how we can finalize this transaction, please send me full name and address so BidPay can run a backround report about your identity. I'm a serious seller and a fair trader and I prefer to deal only with a serious buyer. Please reply me and give me the details that I have demanded you.
Regards.
Rhoda Goodman
Ps. I attached to this email the REVS Certificate. Hope to hear from you soon

Is in new car condition. Car only driven on average 3 days a week and mostly freeway to town. Hence low kms. Its just for YOUR peace of mind. Car regularly services at McGrath Liverpool (just had its 70K service recently). Trully immaculate condition. New tyres 29/6/7 on front. Old Front's on rear still 5mm (even on the inside edge) Everything else as new (no modifications). 1600kg Hayman Reece towbar fitted by Holden at time of purchase to attach bike rack. (odd occasion pull box trailer). Why am I selling this? due to moving abroad :-( (long story). Rego TEO57L excellent condition
Only serious buyers please !!!!
If anyone else see's a really cheap car on one of those car sites it probably is a scam. Apparently they then ask for a deposit before you see the car which never happens because they don't own it. (got my hopes up damn scammers)
Be safe people.
I was about to ask if it was a Monaro with 6,000km selling for under $10,000..
Be very wary.. They often say it's from one state but have plates from another. It's all over eBay.
Anyone that is oversees selling a car and is offering shipment is a scam. Yes, they are all over Ebay.
But I have told to the buyer of the house that I will not come back in Australia, until I have a serious buyer for my car.
This and the price of a 2004 clubsport is what I would find sus.
The price and the typical grammatical mistakes always give it away as a scam.
I don't know if its just me, but buying something like cars, boats etc.. over ebay doesn't feel safe especially if a lot of money is involved.
Personally I don't like eBay.
I am not to be speaking the english very well. Please be excusing for my talking. Once I have your money in my Nigerian hands, I will quitting my job be, and going on long trip.

Eeek, contact Bidpay and advise them it's a scam
I always view anything with a too good to be true price tag warily and reading the 'sellers' reply regarding waiting for a serious buyer for a car before coming back to sign over their house to the house buyer would have had alarm bells ringing
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
Send another email saying that you will pay cash on delivery of the car. Tell her/him that you will even pay the cost of the airfare because you are saving so much money on the car. All this will be handed over in cash. See what the response to that is.
Send a terrorist to his address.
