i think it is wrong that they do that... it will just make things worse becasue if a copper said hey mate were taking your car and going to wreck it becasue of alledged street racing i sure as hell wouldnt be stopping long enough for them to take the keys off me.

Why aren't they going to crush drink driving offenders cars? Drink driving is a bigger concern than "hooning" imo.

i sure do hope said hoon has a fair trial before car is destroyed. there are some cops out there that will call just about anyhting you do dangerous driving and use hoon laws to destroy cars

maybe they should change the current 3 strikes and govt sells your car to 3 strikes and govt crushes your car. would make more sense, and then it wont just feel like theyre screwing you out of money for themselves.

The fact is, the people that get into these situations have generally been a menace and haven't learnt from their idiocy.

I'd liek to see some cases where peoples cars were taken off them when they didn't do anything wrong....

The government's money is our money, its not going to Mr Howard or Costello or any other polly. Just think of it this way, the hoons are being forced to donate their car to everybody else, the government is just ensuring the proceeds get collected and distributed fairly.
From an environmental point of view its not good to destroy what took a lot of energy to make and then use more energy in manufacture to replace it( as no doubt the hoons will eventually need to find alternative wheels after they get their licenses back)

theres been a few cases were if they are high profile people they seem to get slapped on the wrist

this from what i can gather started up in the states first (crushing car laws) and the government has taken up the same approach here aswell, they also are thinking about replacing hand guns with tazzers which i think is in force in some parts of the country?

I agree, i wouldnt mind the laws, if there was a uniform definition of what is classed as hooning and what is not. As im sure many people are aware there are so many different interpretations. The neighbours all complain to my mum that im a hoon because my stereo is loud comming down the street at 4 in the arvo. Does this mean because the biddies up the road think im a menace to society my car is to be crushed?

Is crushing someones car a resonable punishment for a chirp at the lights, or a bit of tyre screech around a corner? Hell no, but i guarantee you coppers have pulled people over and and punished them for it under the new hoon laws.

Like i said at the start of the post, get a clear cut definition which takes the police discrection out of the picture so we can have some uniformity in what is a hoon offence and what is not, and maybe then mr piggy can start crushing cars.

I think that is a great idea, so good infact that they should also enforce it upon hoons as well.

But also i regards to hooning i think more has to be done in "prevention". Like they have a good basis now for the punishment of hoons and its only going to get better, yet the government has given no option of anywhere else, or any incentive for drivers to take such actions off the road and into a controlled environment.

I think this will only affect idiots. Though they should also introduce same laws for grannies that touch park off other peoples cars and generally annoy everyone.

Crushing cars is just wrong. Its just like the death penalty, just because something does something wrong, doesnt mean you should kill it. It just isnt the answer.

..But then again, I think the US still has the death penalty so what I just said doesnt apply to them

Gonna be quite hard to see them crushing a 100K + car.

Maybe the value of the car should be considered so the government could make quite a bit of money that can be better spent on something, crushing them which does not solve the bigger problem (hooning.drink driving etc..) anyway.

Hmmm id say for them too crush it, they need hard evidance? like have u on film racing. but like said define what hooning is. because i bet there is a tone off ppl out there following these so called hoons to watch them do what ever. what happens to them. Hoon should be classed as Racing on the street and burnouts. mainly???? playn loud music an that type of thing is another matter. thats what i think.

Also there is coppers out there that have a high trip and what if they didnt get any and have the ****'s can they say u were doin hoonish behavour. id say they need hard evidance other wise there will be alot of court cases.

If people that were actually repeat offenders for not just "hooning" but going out in public and becoming a menace to themselves or others on the streets were prosecuted fairly and found to be guilty......... confiscate it or crush it.... i dont care!
Most of us that are doing the right thing are judged poorly by others and labelled "hoons" just cos we may have a car that stands out or attracts attention.
Most car clubs have issues with the few individulals that cant control themselves and give the clubs a bad name.( they usually are no longer members of a club after that).
If the system is fair and just... either donate the money to a good cause or crush it and make the individual watch..... might just sink in a bit better.
How you deal with cars that are techinically owned by finance companies i dont know.Only drama is it would cause people to flee more if they know it is gunna get crushed.
They need to define "Hooning" properly .
In my eyes it is doing street racing or doing burnouts on public roads.
Simple answer is...... Race legally on the track!

Your right a car isnt a privilege, but driving on public roads is. You break the law they have the right to take what they need to. You know what the laws are so if you break them you know the consequences.
