Default What food is good with a broken jaw?

    y0

last monday i went into hospital for what may call a crazy operation, had my jaw broken in 6 places and repositioned , got 7 plates and 3 bone graphts with some large gaps that need bone to grow back over..

i was in hospital for 5 days on morphine (I HAD A BUTTON!!!!!!!WOOOOO) anyway that was fun especially when they told me they were upping my dosage to 20x per 4 hours lol anyway back on track

my jaws bolted together and i have elastics on my braces (yes i had to get braces to go with the operation)

anyway i can open my mouth a good 1.5cm enough to get things in but im struggling to find tastey things to eat

like seriously im living on jelly, mash potoato and now rice because u dont have to chew it..

i tried pasta but it hurts to swollow, see i cant even chew soft things pains too bad

anyone been through this? its like having wisomds done except it lasts for a good 5-6 weeks before u can even chew soft things 8 weeks ive been told till i can chew things like chicken

when i had all my wisdoms ripped out i lived off thickshakes pretty much for the next couple of days, they're always good and fill you up.
i also managed mince (like spag bol mince) too when i needed a meat fix.
i think you should just have fun with the blender and come up with stuff, lol, fruit is always easy to work with, blend a bunch of different fruit together and drink that.
i cant imagine going 5-6 weeks without any real food...i feel for you mate, a couple of days is bad enough.

Ouch. I feel sorry for you. It was bad enough when I got one of my molars out a couple of months ago. I was eating custard, yoghurt, jelly, ice cream, mash potato, milk. Kept me going OK.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

    CHOCOLATE CUSTARD is the best

Or like peanut head said, get inventive with a blender! If it's crap, throw it out and start again. Maybe even write your own receipe book for people with a broken jaw and then become rich!

Seriously as people have said, Blender is your friend.

I know some people that have had radical stomach surgery too, & had to have a liquid, followed by 'mushies' diet for months. The only way to get thru it, is to blend stuff together lol.

I had a really bad case of glandular fever a couple of years ago. Put me on my arse for 1 and half months. Worst time of my whole life. Anyway I didn’t eat for 1 WHOLE month. Now I know many will say that’s not physically possible but I did, I lived on my fat reserves, as I was a bit tubby at the time.

I couldn’t swallow cus my glads had swollen up to a little bit bigger then golf balls. I lived on red myzone and good old English breakfast tea. Dead set I would have been seriously rooted if I didn’t drink those 2 things. I would spew every night cus I had nothing in my stomach, at one period I didn’t sleep for a whole week, I was hallucinating constantly and everything was GREEN insanely trippy lol. I had the constant fear of my appendix bursting, thank god it didn’t.

Spewed that much that I had destroyed my throat and blood was draining into my lungs. Then the rash omg, you think chicken pox is bad.... The funny thing was I basically recovered in 2 days. I remember one day I passed out then woke up covered in blood, I had thrown up on myself and I couldn’t move, dad drove me to the doctors which seemed like 2 hrs, but was only 5 minutes down the road. He wanted to put me in hospital but I didn’t want to go cus I thought I would get worse from having no immune system. That next night I ate dinner… random.

Was off work for another couple of weeks then went onto light duties for about a month. So all up I was out of action for about 3 months...

Id stick to liquid diets from experience lol if you have to chew it dont bother.

    My sister went though this.

Got all of her wisdom teeth ripped out, had braces for the next 2 years and then got her jaw broken and repositioned with plates and screws.

I remember it was just a lot of soups for over a month, until she could very carefully start trying to eat proper food.
