i cant understand why the quality of paint work on new/late model cars these days has dropped to way below acceptable.
years ago when you bought a new car it used to be almost flawless and high gloss now i pull up to a new hsv or even a new bmw and all i see is a tonne of orange peel.
even my white vy has orange peel in it something chronic why has the public just accepted this as the new standard ???
Lets make things cheaper and cheaper. Next we'll send all new cars to China for a paint - Lead included free of charge.....

this is the only thing i dont like about holden and ford. they never think about quality. well not as much as toyota and other companies anyway. they like doin things cheaply
I don't see any thing wrong with the paint on new cars, Are you guys talking about some of them or all of the cars that roll out the factory floor??
Looking at dad's VE there seem to be no defect or quality issue at all!!
yea my vn calais has a smoother finish then my dads brand new car orange peel all over the place lol.........
i think where its painted hs something to do with that and that i think the painting is all automated by robots now

The only thing about the VE's paint I've notice while driving around is some colours - the front and rear bars are a completly different shade of colour to the main part of the car.
That really looks bad.
Then I think - well it is just a Holden made for Aussie conditions - not just city stuff but out bush too and after a few kms on the dusty roads of Australia - good luck on telling what colout the car is - a shade of bull dust red![]()

ive noticed terrible orange peel especially on black cars with all makes/models just get it out in the sun and look down the side of the car and you'll see it over the entire body or if its black/dark blue next time you pull up to one have a look at the doors, the only time its hidden is when its very very overcast/raining or dark at night/later afternoon.
and to add to that sorry excessv but it was one example i could find ussually orange peel/dull paint dosent show on photos but this one certainly captures the moment...
this sort of thing should be unherd of on a new car it looks like somone has got a can of spray paint and badly repaired the rear bumper even though its new without any damage

you be surprised at how many dealership cars actualy get repaired from when workers acidently run into other cars on the lot or nudge a wall trying to get em all snug in lol...
my mate used to work for one of the local panel shops and they where forever getting brand new cars sent up from the dealership to get fixed

Wow, this is interesting, just went to see my VS and I see no orange peel any where!! I hope Holden and other affected car manufacturers are aware of this problem.
the vs paint jobs where pretty good compared to VX - VY onwards
Different methods of painting these days. All robotic. And even the methods of painting with the robots are being changed all the time to supposedly 'improve'.
Honestly, my observations are that the paint on new cars just gets better and better in both durability and finish.....especially if you were around when new cars were produced 30+ years ago. Many of the paint jobs from that era would not survive more than 10 years on the top surfaces, making a respray a fairly typical occurence for cars not parked under cover. Cars that are 10 years old today, dont seem to be suffering the same fate.
Not aware of the problem being mentioned atm.......but will keep my eyes peeled!
Exactly my thoughts on this thread, the paint quality is awesome on the new cars and iv never seen bad paint on any newer cars. i just bought a 05 vz exec in silver and the paints in great condition just a few minor scratches and thats the first thing i sussed when purchasing it- was the paint
i think too it has to do with the shapes of new cars theyre more curvy than say a vn
I dont see how curves in the panel really gives the orange peel effect. I believe its something to do with the spray or the spray pattern??
one thing ive actually herd is they used a water based paint as opposed to back in the day when they used 2 pak
