I'd say a rough plan like this:
Lakes Entrance - 90 mile beach, other local 'beachy' attractions
Perhaps Wonthaggi/Philip Island/Melbourne - beach, race track, general Melbourne landmarks
Port Fairy or Portland - fishing towns, lots of history, some may say a 'cute' place to stay.
Mount Gambier - blue lake, sink holes, lookouts. Nature sort of place
Hahndorf - German town in the Adelaide hills. Fantastic for history. Also check out Lobethal for some of the history on Lutheran settlers.
Then you can make your own way back.
Yeah lakes entrance is awesome!!! Also wilson's promontory
Yeah I agree with what Arrow224 said. Thats a good list. I was going to mention Portland myself i stayed there for a week not long ago.
Did this the trip along the GOR back when i was living in Adelaide. Stayed at warrnambool (sp?) and Port Fairy nice little towns indeed. Mt Gambier worth a stop as is Naracoorte, got some Limestone caves which are fasinating if you are a geological man. Waikerie good to have a stretch as well, lake alexandria nice at certain times of the year. Dont take the route along the coorong, while its pleasant, the road is a shocker. Not good for low riders or hard suspension.
Agree with Hahndorf, beautiful little German town not fifteen minutes up the freeway.
Glenelg worth a stop for talent spotting and outdoor eating. Nice beaches and esplanade cruising from glenelg to seacliff. Jetties along boast good squiding if wetting a line is your thing.
hmm, thanks for that guys naracoorte, mount gambier and lakes entrance sounds good, i like the foresty/nature sortof thing, what places should you avoid?
