Is there a fine at customs if caught bringing DVDs into Australia![]()
each dvd has a region code to prevent being watched in other countries. australia is region 4. so if they arent copies I cant see why it would be illegal. because when people copy dvd's they usually remove the region code![]()
Simple. Burn the DVD's if they aren't region 4, and make them region-free. All legal too, as you have the legal copy of it.
My samsung dvd recorder-dvd player plays em all no matter what region. have a look at this website DVDunlocker.com - DVD Region Unlock Codes. Unlock DVD Player Region Codes
Dvds in bali are pirated.
But the thing is they are not illegal over in Asian country's like bali indonesia.
We came back with hundreds a year or two ago. The customs lady at the bali airport checked out my bag and pulled out one of the dvds (ohhh mr bean very funny) and put it back in and we were off on our way. But our bags were not searched when we arrived in Australalia so I cant tell you if you get in trouble. But I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble???
If it a bag full of p*rn then hell yeah you'll get stuffed for that.
You can even unlock DVD drives in ya puter as well....just set the region to '0' or sumfin coz then it accepts all DVD's. There's a few programs around to do it. I think ya can change the region settings about 4 or 5 times b4 ya drive locks up so ya can't change it anymore.

I should say if u have 50,000 DVDS and like 100 copies of each you will get shafted. however if your only bringing in a few and u are clearly a tourist u will be fine. i bought about 300 back from indonesia and was ALL GOOD!!!![]()
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
there is programs, but too much stuffing around IMO. thats mainly for watching DVDs tho. I usually just remove the region and create a DVD image on my hardrive to watch whenevergotta love mass storage.
other option which im still yet to try is find a region-free firmware version and update the eprom in the DVD-ROM.

I use either dvdshrink or dvd decrypter. you cant shrink with dvd decrypter tho, but is a very powerful program and great for cracking encrypted dvd's, and because of this it is now released with much less options(not sure what happened)
I mainly use dvdshrink tho, its convenient and never have had any problems with it.
i went to bali 7 years ago. bought back heaps of dvds did not have any probs. only thing they asked is if we had any bb guns. which we did but they did not find out. only thing taken off us was my brothers blow gun. im pretty sure the Australian customs saw the dvds when we came through cant be sure tho been to long
You won't get fined for bringing DVD's into the country. But Customs can confiscate them, because they are pirated.
Most of the Bali DVD's are completely region free and sell for cheap as chips. If you're lucky you can get the ones that have been copied from original DVD's.
I've been through a couple of times and customs have never bothered me about the DVD's. But I have heard a couple of stories of Customs taking them all..
It's a risk you take.
Last time I was there I brought back about 50 but I was a bit worried about customs this time so only took back a select few.

No fine.
They can get confiscated though. Most customs officers let them through, its only if they suspect you of selling them will they be confiscated.
Anything less than 50 dvd's and you shouldn't have any hassles whatsoever.
I brought back a couple hundred back in 04... Didn't even have our bags checked when we arrived in sydney.
I think it is 120 each person you are allowed. My family went over a few years ago and came back with an average of 70 each (there were 5 of us) and we were fine. There is a website somewhere that tells you how many you can bring.
If you were wondering, its 1.25L of spirits per adult or (i think) 2L of beer that you can bring back too
Most of the dvds we got over there worked ok, just bad quality or a slight jump somewhere in the movie. Not buying unreleased movies increases the chance of better quality as well
