believe it or not but that car would only be probably doing just over 80-90kph! you would be supprised to see what remains of alot of average cars that have a full on smash (without braking) after hitting something on or just over 80kph!

yer the old commodores like mine are pretty flimsy, they only weigh 1200kg some are even lighter...also i know for a fact that was 140km/h i have seen the full video and it says the speed.

i have seen a few crash tests on older cars vs newer cars of the same model and the new ones where alot better off.

but hitting a solid wall at 140 in any car u would not survive

lmao my old vk would be lucky to reach 140kmh kind of comfortating knowing that know!
although my old vb 253 v8 could get a hell of a lot more on the speedo then that

    i doubt it's 140 km/h. probably more like 100 km/h.

there would be no conceivable reason for a govt. dept. to test what happens at 140 km/h. those tests are expensive.

bull****! there was a reply on youtube about the car actually being welded together (a rear from 1 commodore& front from another 1) just look where it crumbles from the back seats its bull**** coz earlier model holdens where much stronger than that and would only realy crumble till the firewall or if a harder impact into the front drivers section- everyone knows that and iv never seen any car crumble like that unless it was at atleast 100k or more and hitting a solid unmoveable object. a bloody chinese made car crumbles like that not an aussie car

Actually this is how a rigid car collapses in on itself which is why these older cars are so bloody dangerous. Do you really think people would waste all this money just to do a test like that?

I have seen what a VL Commodore does when meeting a pole at 80 km/h. Lets just say the 2 occupants were very much dead and were sitting where the back seat should of been had it not been wrapped around them.

By all means though, believe what someone has posted on You tube just to defend how **** old cars were. This is why Volvo and now every other car company designs cars to impact away from the centre of the car.

I believe sleek_vp is correct. From memory the car was a cut & shut and the video was made to highlight the dangers of shoddy backyard smash repairs.

ok look at this, you smash anything into a brick wall hard enough and it will be turned into a pancake

i am talking in accidents. As for standard the VLT wasn't exactly fast. Of course, anything can be fast if you pump enough cash into it. Although, i'd love to see lets say a stock VLT vs a Stock VE SS around a track. I sure as heck know the VL won't be anywhere near it!!

the problem with cut and shuts is that the weldline can fracture, causing the structure to collapse at that point (usually near the B-pillar).

if you look at the video, although it does fold near that point, the rest of the car forwards of the boot pretty much gets squashed as well. even if there was no cut and shut (which there may not have been), everyone would be dead.

all the video proves is that hitting a brick wall at 100 km/h is going to **** you up real bad.
