The Tata Nano is a new car built in India, announced recently. What do you think?

On a few blogs there have been some comments about it being an environmental disaster, as so many of them will be built. Most of these comments seem to be from selfish bastards from developed countries who already drive cars much more damaging on an individual level. I think we need more of these in those countries as well (to replace the vehicles we drive now).
One of the significant things about it is that it is so inexpensive. You can see from the pages from the links that the base model will sell for <A$3000. Would you buy one if it was sold in Aust. or NZ? At what price? It could surely be sold for under $10K, maybe much less. It's Euro III compliant and is meant to be able to pass some of the EU crash tests so it might not be particularly expensive to get ADR compliance.
I guess, because it is so small, safety is going to be mentioned but is it any worse than a used car that might be an equivalent price?
I'd seriously think about buying one, in white with the black wheels looks good. You can't have much fun in a fast car these days anyway without getting caught so you might as well drive the wheels off something with no power and tiny tyres. It's RWD, so it would probably drift (occasionally, where you can still get away with it) on a wet round about.
Can you see a "Just Nanos" forum starting in Mumbai?

i went to india last year and even in the regional areas, you often can't see the sun in the middle of the day, with no clouds.
to be fair a Euro 3 compliant car is a big improvement over the black smoke machines currently in operation over there. but if you beleive in global warming, it will be a disaster. there are a billion + people over there.
personally i'm all for cheap cars. no one would seriously pay $100k for a mercedes if they didn't think other people would jealous.
Man, there is no way I would want to be in one of those during an accident...besides, ugly as sin.
I'll stick to my cars thanks. Good on them for producing their own cars, but i just have a feel of safety in my 1.7 tonne VY![]()

LOL
Atleast you wont catch them doing burnouts...
Depends on where you are in India about the crashes. If you live in the major cities, chances are that you'll only get little dings.
I think it's a good idea. Tata's taking over from the mission of Ford. To make cars affordable for everyone.
Obviously there will be an environmental impact, but it will be limited by the emissions on this thing.
If I lived on Chapel St or very inner city (ie. where my speed would rarely exceed 60kmh), than I would strongly consider it. It provides good competition to motorbikes over there also, which may reduce fatalities and injuries.

wrecking VL COMMODORE 5 speed
FOR SALE : supra 5 speed box suite holden v8 $800
Seems only the VN/VP boys are paying out on it.
Got an inferiority complex?
It's a bit too expensive to pay for a bit of scrap metal and a motor the size of my lawn mower.

Buy two ,then you can skate to work lol
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
My lawn mower is more powerful than that!
For that price, if it broke down you could leave it on the side of the road and go buy another 1.
If they are released in Australia for around that price then i am definately buying 1
I'll use it for driving to work everyday where i never get to go above 60 anyway
Plus being new they will have to have some sort of warranty, better than buying a $3000 second hand nightmare
You'd still be looking at paying $$$ for rego plus stamp duty every year so it wouldn't really make it worthwhile having it as a second car. Besides, most accidents occur under 60km/hr so I would rather hit a car with my Commodore and ding a panel than be in a flying pea like that and have broken legs and a busted collar bone.

it looks like a poorly photochopped yaris......
