What is everyone's thoughts on the Japanese "Scientific" whaling?
For me i think it is a joke, what frustrates me more is we had the new government telling us before they were elected that they would send Navy ships to patrol etc. They have done squat(not surprisingly). Why are people so scared to stand up to these bastards and stop them slaughtering these rare animals? It is bad enough they trap and slaughter dolphins so cruelly, but to still harpoon whales in this day and age is barbaric.
It is great to see Greenpeace play such an active role in this, although i am generally against what they do, this is one thing that makes me quite happy to see them do.
I just wish governments would stop using lies and bull**** to sway some peoples votes then turn and kick **** in their face by not following through.
It's about time the Navy got to practice war games on these Japanese Whalers.

100% on your side on this.
But I suspect you already know the answer is economic pressure and trade relations.
Greenpeace usually are about ten to twenty years ahead of public opinion, not that I follow it all that closely.
Did you also see that some Japanese kid posted that we are slaughtering kangeroos, on youtube to counter their whaling. Yes we have hunted things to extinction but when did two wrongs make a right? The whaling debate is annoying also because they are not within any particular country and it shows that you can get to 99% concensus on something worldwide and still have a couple of goofballs insist on their right to carry on regardless. I can't even watch news reports on the whaling as it freaking depresses me so much.
kangaroo's lol they have become a pest hence culling on farm's
unless your out in the stick's you dont understand how many there really are theres over a million left i garuntee
they do heap's of damage to farm's whales dont do ****
last week i heard these jap's where hunting an endagered species no body else does why do they think they have the right its not there place to trash anyway

Oh yeah sorry my post sounds like i'm making a link between Roos and endangered species. The kid mentioned something else we had hunted to extinction. Not roos. I've seen roos in plague proportions. They get so bad that none of them look healthy and it is quite sad really. People thing we are culling the cute ones in the zoo or something.
They always cite cultural beliefs. But realisticly it is just some big fat rich dude sitting back in Japan and eating the last of a species with a big grin on his face. I think the average thoughtful person in Japan is not really responsible. With the internet and wiki etc being so widespread worldwide it is pretty hard to plead ignorance.
Japanese whalers should be blown out of the water. Our navy needs some target pratice there's only so many mock drills you can do.
MY girlfirend was really into this program, cant remeber what it was called, but they go around and sink the boats within the habour or at least damage them so they couldnt go out. The program consisted of going out sailing, healping out on board, like being in the navy but hell vegan style... There realy crazy activists! hahah
whaling is a bad thing, nothing good will come of it.
aZk.
Whales don't breed rapidly like other species hence one of the reasons they are near extinct and also could not keep up on the number of killings each year and that they need to be protected to keep the numbers up.
We have had one victory, the Japanese have announced the exclusion of Humpback Whales, although minor but a victory non the less.
The Government has sent a customs ship down to monitor the situation.
Although it's not the navy, they do have a couple of big ass guns on board, hopefully they won't be scared to use em.The Australian Customs vessel Oceanic Viking has been sent to the Southern Ocean to monitor the whalers’ activities and gather evidence that the Government could use to assess the potential of legal action or to gain more support at the International Whaling Commission to stop whaling.

Im far from your Greenpeace loving Enviromentalist but theyve really gotta stop this. I dont see why "Scientific" research allows them to slaughter an endangered species. They are endangered, end of story stop killing them.
Is this the ship that hasnt even left port yet?

Heres what ive found, from the Sydney Morning Herald.
There is some debate whether or not its capable. But it has infact left the dock. The Oceanic Viking was still en route to the whaling zone and no operational details would be made public, a spokeswoman for Home Affairs Minister Bob Debus said.
Opposition justice and border protection spokesman Christopher Pyne said a government expert had told him the former P&O cruise ship was only equipped to operate in sub-Antarctic waters.
"Ships have to have a certain capacity to be able to go into the Antarctic waters where the actual slaughter of the whales takes place," Mr Pyne said.
Mr Debus rejected the claim. "The Oceanic Viking is totally capable of sailing in the area of operation that's required to monitor the Japanese fleet and there has never been any suggestion otherwise," his spokeswoman said.
Like its going to do something anyway.

Haha, the Australian Government could always give Greenpeace some sort of device to put a hole in the Japanese ship. Everyone already hates Greenpeace...
why do they need so many for research

I was thinking more of the lines of that... Has anyone seen Tomorrow Never Dies, another fabulous James Bond MovieOne of those things that eats through your ship. That would work great.
