Default Insurance for when you loose your licence....

IN an Australian first, an insurance company will allow motorists to insure themselves against losing their licences.

Ezy Insure will offer what it calls loss of licence assistance, covering drivers for up to $1000 a month to offset the expense of alternative transport while their licence is suspended, Fairfax reports.

The policy was designed for good drivers who fell victim to revenue-raising, National Underwriting Agencies spokesman Noel Johns said.

"Thousands of Australians are being penalised for minor transgressions each day and the loss of their licence can really affect their work and family life," Mr Johns said.

"There are over 10.5 million registered passenger vehicles in Australia and the majority of the drivers of those vehicles are trying to do the right thing.

"But with the increase of fixed cameras and other devices, people are getting tired of being booked for a few kilometres over."

VicRoads figures show 33,082 full-licence drivers had 12 or more demerit points at June 30 last year.

A further 12,132 had 11 demerit points and 22,844 others had 10 demerit points.

Victorian drivers can lose up to 12 demerit points before their licence is suspended for a three-month period.

The Victorian government and police deny speed cameras are used to raise revenue.
Anyone else see this on ACA? The guy copped a little **** saying that this was telling "hoon" and other bad drivers that it is ok to loose your licence, that suffering when having to find alternative transport is part of what you are supposed to suffer when you loose it.

The guy said also (which isnt in this article) any loss of licence taking more than 3 points, drink driving offence, mobile phone offences etc WILL NOT be covered.

I think its a brilliant idea! What do you think?

personally i think its a stupid idea. if you lose your licence you lose your licence. that just means that everyone else paying premiums through that company is footing the bill. how is that fair?

it doesn't make any sense. how does being paid some compensation help the fact you can't drive after losing your license?

it's completely stupid. if people want to pay for it though, that's their decision.

What will be next.... insurance if you go to jail to cover lost wages so your family (if you're supporting one) will not suffer financially?

Do the crime, do the time. No one is forced to speed or park illegally.

World is getting sillier by the minute.

Im 50/50, but for the people saying that you do the crime, do the time etc. How bout this, do you have car insurance and TAC insurance? Get rid of it mate, you do the crime you do the time. Its simple you dont like insurance caus you think its cheating.
Sorry thats just the way i see it, everyone is for car insruance and tac insurance caus it helps you if someone hits you, but when theirs an insurance the really only helps you everyone is against it. Being that is only for minor infringements would most likely be an accident, i think its a good idea. But personelly no i wouldnt pay for it.

    Cheers Tom
