Default Why not to tear up the streets - Burnout Penalties in NSW

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop a line just to keep everyone aware of want the current laws in NSW mean if you get caught doing a burnout. no matter how petty or accidental.

Picture this, Good Friday 2007, Sitting at the entrance of a carpark getting soaked whilst your car gets loaded onto a tilt tray. No fun at all... pulled over for a burnout which was not intentional.

The officer at the time advised me that I could write a letter to local supervisor to request a reversal. 2 Letters and 5 good reasons and still no joy. The only way to possibly get it back was to go before the courts, this letter from the police arrived 2 months after my car impounded was 1 month from being released.

Basically the figures and facts are:
*1ST Offense = 3 months impoundments of the vehicle
= $1050 fine for the 3 months of fees and tow truck costs
= $451 in fines and 4 points

*2ND Offense = Vehicle is taken and either sold at auction or the new possibility is crushing your car
= Suspension of license

So basically guys take it from me, it's really not worth doing burnouts on the streets, hit your local drag strip instead. Because even if you don't do it intentionally you can still loose your car....

It's either $40 bucks and a new set of tires or possibly loosing your car and at least $1500 in fees.

If this thread keeps 1 person from loosing their car or life than this was worth it!!

If you only broke traction for 1 max 2 seconds how would the police even know?

My guess is you come out of the Red Rooster, kicked it in the guts, lost control, regained control, you got seen, now you are facing the consequences.

A tyre spinning for 1 second would not even be recognisable.

Sorry over did my example. Loud exhaust - I didnt even move forward.

I have excepted what has happened, and just trying to keep others from going through the same crap...

In this scenario I have no reason to lie, all the damage has been done...It's almost been a year. Max time it would have gone would have been 3 or 4 seconds on the peddle

I can't believe people still need to be told to not do it. Whether or not you get your car snatched from you, I myself don't like the sight of some idiot ripping up rubber outside my local shops or in my street. It makes me cringe most of the time because every time I hear a burnout, I wait for a loud bang because the idiot might have lost it and hit a pole. Do it in outer metro areas on dead roads if the urge is there. Don't do it around built up areas and where ever there is people and traffic around. It's not being responsible.

How do you do burnouts by accident?
Ive been guilty of unintentionally spinning the wheels while going uphill on a snow road or when taking off uphill on wet tram tracks, but other than that its a bit hard to see how one could spin the wheels for less than a fraction of a second unintentionally.

So basically, if you have a car where you cant stop the wheels from spinning accidentally on dry bitumen, you should have it taken off you! If it is set up with a twitchy throttle then that's another good reason why it should be taken off the road. If the manufacturer gave it to you like that.......that is your problem too, either the car is unsafe or you are to ham fisted to drive it.

is that really the law?? here in qld i did a burnout and got caught. it was one of the very few times i have ever done 1 and was in an industrial area with nobody around (except the unmarked cop hiding in the shadows) but i know that doesnt excuse me... it was on the spot for bout 8 seconds. got my car impounded for 48 hours went to court a month later got a $360 fine then later got a bill for towing and holding fees of $244, didnt even lose any points and still havent. didnt care bout the fine or court or losing my car for 2 days only thing i was worried bout was telling my parents haha.

next offence up here is lose car for 3 months or lisence for 3 months cant remember...then 3rd offence is loss of car altogether.

and also yeah you cant do a burnout by accident in the dry (and very hard to in the wet) if u can then u need to get a honda jazz or something you might be able to handle

In NSW its a zero tolerance approach, 3months and then taken all together. On the night it was pouring down rain and it was an uphill entry to the actual street, cheap tires...

Sorry it was just before midnight... was concentrating on the actual message of the story rather than editing the grammar of it...

Thanks for information though

Like I replied in the first message - very wet, incline and cheapo tires...

You live, you learn i guess
