I think this highlights on why the laws need to be changed for Learner drivers. Only legal guardians and qualified instructors should be allowed in the car of a learner driver. It is quite obvious that people have ******** mates that can get in the car with them. We wonder why laws keep changing and conditions are getting tougher...this idiot sums it up right here.A LEARNER driver has been caught speeding at more than 170km/h in southern NSW.
Police say the 20-year-old Victorian driver had two passengers in the car when he was allegedly clocked at 174km/h in a 110km/h zone at Tarcutta yesterday.
Highway patrol officers stopped him about 1pm (AEDT) and issued a court attendance notice for the offences of driving at a dangerous speed and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
The driver had held a learners licence since November, police said.
He will appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on March 18.

what a tool!!! i reckon loss of licence for @ least 12months when he goes to court, although it should be for 2years minimum imo!

True, but everyones should be entitled to a second chance, i mean even though there was no excuse for what he did, if his licence is taken from him indefinatley then he will probably say stuff it and then bludge off the system for the rest of his life, and if the licensed passenger was beside hime then they should be the one to loose their licence indefinatley because they should know better! just my 2cents worth![]()
I was under the impression that the licensed driver in the prescence of the learner would also cop the penalty. I remember one night at Krispey Kreme, some L plater in a busted up EL was doing doughies in one of the carparks, we phoned the coppers as he was cutting loops and read out the rego. Police came asked us a few questions and said the licensed driver will be loosing his license.
And i agree minux, if they cant get it right whilst they are under L plates, where you are the most vunerable person on the road then theres no way he should even get to his P's.
dont need a licenced driver to go and do stupid stuff on ya Ls
140 dollar fine if your picked up for driving without a licenced person in the car
1 fine for no licenced driver and 1 for not displaying L plates...
half of my mates just used to go driving coz it was only **** fine lol...myself included .. not the smartest idea but when ya 16 and wanna pick up girls it sounded good lol
pff he will probably get a fine slap on the wrist and sent on his way maybe they should make an example of him
wrecking VL COMMODORE 5 speed

Good ol media.
I agree with whats been said, as long as it is getting applied across the board. If a full licensed driver does the same, she should lose her license indefinatly aswell.

I disagree with that, being an L-plater. My mum hardly ever gets to take me for a drive, and wont sit next to me while i learn to drive manual in my car. So i relie on my brother, sisters family friends, practically anyone who will sit next to me, to get my experience up. But i dont drive stupid, and i wouldnt be doing 170 km/h.
But agree with everything else, and their needs to be tougher laws. I was told by a copper that if i get caught speeding that the person sitting next to me gets in trouble not me. Also from the same copper, he said i will lose my licence if the person sitting next to me has been drinking. Im in VIC, and think all laws need to be revised.
Cheers Tom
Why won't your mother sit in the car while you are learning? How does she ever expect you to learn and drive your own car one day as a safe driver? No offense, but that's pretty stupid.

Only 174? WEAK!
Once read in a SC magazine of an L plater winding cars off the clock. Now I diddnt hear anyone making a fuss about that. [/sarcasm]
But seriously, these topics only seem to get posted if they make the news, coming straight from the evil medias mouth. Plus quite frankly its getting boring of nearly every news headline getting posted on JC because its the same crap every time. Just a whole lot of people having a bitch together and flaming each other on one anothers views. Its not like we dont watch/listen/read the news anyway.

But he is a learner and had 2 ppl in the car. Regardless stupid
Your mate while it was not the right thing to do he still had no one else in the car, and this learner (one could assume) has limited experience in a car and takes 2 ppl for a joy ride at that speed.
I think it would be best to take the license for a couple of years and take the supervisors license for the same amount.
Make the penalty for breaking that jail time.
Its time to start doing something and making start making tough laws (not just for this but all crimes, but thats another topic).
in n.s.w. both l plate and full licence driver will lose their licence for 24 month's
the l plater will cop a minamum fine 45 over $1100+ if double dem in place X2
the judge has no say, the min is $1100~max $3100+expence
(note insurance comp's in oz in all states are notified of this conviction by the r.t.a. both driver's will have an increase and/or be wiped.)
Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right.

Lol i agree. She will let me drive her car, i got well over my 120 hours in my first year so she does let me drive. She just doesnt like sititng next to me in my car caus its old and not as comfortable as hers. Plus she recons shes never got time, which is crap caus she does but yeah, just easier to get someone else to sit next to me and save the hassle.
Sorry i retract my last statement about the sarcasm and just add that your an idiot.
The point is, L platers are the most vunerable drivers on the road, they have the least experience, drivers get extremely frustrated with them and in most cases the driver isnt always the most comfortable and confident in his/her surroundings.
When you pair that with 170+ KMPH its down right stupid, but his stupidity didnt end there, he had two passengers, who in all likelyhood, were egging him on.
Yes i admit i speed from time to time, but im not 74 k's over, and im not a L platers with 2 passengers.
KILL YOURSELF, DONT DRAG DOWN PASSENGERS WITH YOU.
I agree with Grennan. You are an idiot. And i don't believe for a minute your mate was doing 274km/h in a supra. Sounds like a dead set load of sh*t to me.
I believe people here have done rediculous speeds. On a 1/4 mile. There may be all of about 5 people on this whole forum that i would believe would do that.
