I had like a 3 minute examination and get charged $65 + $18 for some tooth mousse he says I need.
All he did was sit there, check each tooth with a metal thing and say (*tooth number* clear). And thats $65?
He's sent me to get X-Rays for my wisdom teeth (2 have not come through, 2 have 1 of which is fine, the other is causing irritation) and then I have to go back.
Even with SGIC health, I still had to pay $53 of the $80 something.
I fail to see any justification for under 5 minutes work.
LMAO, I am currently in the oprocess of having a few fixes, 2 root canals, few cosmetic fixes, $3500 in total.

It's expensive mate, I'm currently paying $300 a month getting fillings and got a root canal last month. Need to get a crown on that and it will be $1500 for one. I would much prefer $85 everything is fine that 3k worth of work.
To have a tooth removed and replaced with a plate or an implant is $6k so be glad you have good teeth.
Friend of mine saw a specialist for skin cancer, they paid more than that for a five minute visit.
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now
<davy> an alcoholic racist
But there are no costs involved for what I was there for. My mouth was open for 3 minutes if that... The only equipment he used was a bib thing, and that metal picky thing to touch each tooth. And that was it..
Now you know why they drive around in Mercs and Beamers.....

Time is money. You are paying for his expertise in telling you about your teeth.
The chair you sit in for him to look at you cost 1 arm and 1 leg. + the lease on the building, nurse, reception, merc, holiday home, share portfolio............
It cost a dentist in his own practice half a mil a year just to open the doors. You got out of it cheap

I have a crack in one of my front teeth because some low life wanker threw a 5 cent coin at me and it hit my tooth which caused it to crack. As soon as I noticed the crack I went strait to the dentist and got him to check it out. I was there for all of about 10 minutes because I had had a check up 2 weeks earlier. In the ten minutes I was there all he did was look at the tooth and I was charged $95 and was told that there was nothing that he could do, I would have to wait till the crack broke through and the get it capped if possible or get the whole tooth replaced, which will cost me thousands of dollarsnow this didn’t sound right to me but he’s the dentist after all so I just took his word on it. I have looked after my teeth for my entire life brushing them in the morning and at night every day and sometimes even after lunch if possible and now I could be forced to fork out thousands which I cannot afford just because some wanker decided that he didn’t like me and would throw a coin at me, now in my opinion that is not fair but there is nothing I can do but live with it. I really hate going to the dentist
EDIT: Wow did I just have a bitch or what

Bugga. Dont be afraid to ask your dentist to do cash work lol, mine does. I was very surprised!
Dentistry is a specialised field.
I remember reading in a graduate survey that dentistry and mining engineering grads consistently top the list of highest earning uni graduates.
Not everyone can be a dentist, the demands of the course and then the years of training are very demanding, hence the high pay rate.
Besides, I wouldn't do dentistry for a career if the pay was sub 150k per year, its too much responsibility and study to be worth that little.
I never complain about what the dentist charges.
Just like mining companies don't complain when I charge $1700 a day![]()
Underground mine design, rock mechanics and subsidence modelling
That $1700 a day is not an everyday occurrence. I'm a salaried employee that occasionally consults to the mining industry, and thats where the big dollars come in.
Its all about supply and demand and specialist knowledge. Hence the reason why dentists charge what they do. Imagine if they bugger a job up? The results are very visible![]()
One of the best parts about joining the RAAF was I had all my wisdom teeth out, caps, and cosmetic fixes plus whitening in a private dental clinic FOR FREE
Want good health care? Join the military... Although my current employer pays top cover with Medibank Private for me now. Still not as good as the military.
