For the last six months my wife has been suffering from Tennis Elbow , And so far has not been able to get ant relief. It has got to the stage where she has had to give up work . Just wondering if any members suffer from it or know anyone that does and what do they do to get relief . Thanks in advance Dave
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
This won't be much help, but tell her to take some aspirin to reduce inflammation. Also give the arm as much rest as possible, using the elbow will damage it more. If the elbow needs to be used, make sure to do some exercises with it to warm it up first.
You've probably done all of this though... Sorry I can't be of more help!
I got a clicking and pain when lifting weights on the bench. I stopped it for ages and it didn't make a difference. I changed placement of my weights and now I'm lifting the same weight without grief. What did the physio say?
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now
<davy> an alcoholic racist
mum used to get it bad, she had to get a quartozone (sp?).. she said, in her own words as i just asked her then "they may aswell get it operated on, as they (the quartozone injections) ****ing hurt!..i had three and i would never have one again"..
mind you she had to give up tennis hers was that bad.
I work with quads, and what they get in the knee's is quite simular to tennis elbow, The problem with that area is there is poor blood flow, so its always best to find ways to increase the blood flow, ice massage, using massage rocks and leaving them in the freezer for 30 minutes and massaging the area above & below. A heat pack over the shoulder of a night will encourage blood flow the the entire arm, which may help a little.
Stretching is a good idea, holding a stress ball or even tennis ball stretch the arm out in front of you and squeeze the ball, hold it for 2-3 seconds and repeat but dont push it, if it is too painful then stop. Also pushing up against a wall can help stretch and get the blood flowing. Some Anti-inflammatory will help, so either ask the doc for something OR use normal plain nurofen which contains Anti-inflammatories. A elbow brace will help support it, DONT do anything too major with it though. Keep it Elevated as much as you can.
Seek help from your GP though, it can get much worse.
my mum has this too, what she found helps big time is this brace she got from the doctor. It goes around your forearm up the your elbow...she wears it whenever she does cleaning and it really helps...
stop makin her give u wrist'es..
Charming.... Bit of a pro on the subject are you?
all of the above are spot on with progressive strengthening exercises such as reps of bicept/tricept curls with you palm flat (providing the resistance) and doing short sets underwater, other than that with light stretches and anti inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen the only other things you can do is get the physio to do ultrasound therapy and a positive nerve tension test on your radial nerv. to stop it from pesisting strengthen your shoulder rotator cuff (side-lying abductions, propped external rotator, lateral raise with internal rotation ), scapulothoracic (hard muscle to work as it lies mostly under your shoulder blade, seated rows with pauses and outstretched circle movements changing both direction and sweep of hands is about as much as you can do) and abdominal muscles (crunches, legraises, side-situps, twisted situps) to prevent future overcompensation in the wrist, which in turn leads to greater strain on the elbow.
i suffered from this when i played tennis :P i wore a pressure strap pretty much 24/7 for a few months and hardly used my arm. It was a very gradual process and i had a few set backs due to trying to use my arm before it had healed. Its one of those injurys where you just have to rest it like crazy and hardly move your arm. But the pressure strap just took the pain away.
A little fact is that nerve endings that control pain receptors can be "over ridden" by touch/pressure receptos. The pressure strap will keep the touch receptors busy and over ride some of the pain receptors. This is why your mum always said to rub your knee when you bumped it fallling off your bike. Next time you jam your finger or something just start rubbing it like crazy and the pain will hardly be there.
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
To ease the pain and inflammation of tennis elbow, try:
Rest and avoid any activity that causes pain to the sore elbow.
Apply ice to the affected area.
Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen.
To help the injury from comming back
Use the proper equipment and technique in sports and on the job.
Use a counter-force brace, an elastic band that wraps around the forearm just below the injured elbow may help to relieve pain in some people
I have it and being a bricklayer its no fun when mine plays up i get the tendons put back were they should be then wear the brace thing at work for a few weeks to give it time to settle back in and if it gets sore some days i just wear the brace whenever I feel the need.
To reduce any inflamation the best thing is Voltaren 25. I keep doing a disc in my lower back and again on the weekend after a round of golf. Voltaren got me moving freely within 24 hours. Have you thought about acupuncture? Might be worth looking into and what have you got to lose?
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
i had a dose of it some years ago,an old footy trainer told me to massage the area at the end of the tendon, about 1/3 of the way down ya forearm from ya elbow with ya thumb you will know when ya get the right spot,it hurts a bit dont over do it,it worked for me.
