    Default Insomnia

Anyone else suffer from insomnia? Its driving me nuts, its seems every night I go to bed, tossing (note to filthy little sods I am not refering to masturbation here lol) and turning for hours when i do get to sleep I'm lucky to get 4 hours before my 2 year old wakes me up.

So after laying in bed for an hour of 2 I usually get out of bed and I get so bored-hence this post. Then I am tired and grumpy in the day.

Does anyone who has suffered from insomina have any tips for getting a decent nights sleep before I go to the doctors and ask for some of the stuff heath ledger was on?

insomnia is caused by some part of your body or psyche not functioning as normal. could be anything from poor diet (as mine was) to things like bad memories buried deep within. I'm not going to ask you to pour your heart and soul out, but ask yourself if there's anything from your childhood which wasn't right, or if you could be treating yourself better than you currently do (please understand I'm not having a go at you, just offering suggestions)
my first suggestion is to totally overhaul your diet, even if you already eat things such as salads and fruit regularly. I mean getting rid of things like lollies, softdrinks (all are bad, but cola is worst), basically anything with "obvious" sugar in them. it really messes up your sleep pattern, I'm living proof. another is to increase your water intake even if you drink heaps already. drink more. just trust your instincts. once you increase your water intake as I have, you really feel like you spent the day eating glue if ever you lower your intake for whatever reason.

these are just a starting point, before you go stuffing yourself full of drugs, and the benefits will extend far beyond just sleeping better

When I was younger (in primary school) I couldn't get to sleep one night....so I jumped up on our kitchen cupboards so I could reach my brothers A.D.D. pills which make him sleep....anyways I took 7 and apparently nearly killed myself.....had a good sleep tho....slept all through the next day, even fell asleep in the shower when my Mum was trying to wake me up....got a day off school too.

find something that helps you relax? i usually ahve 3 or 4 beers after work and im asleep by 9 most nights... cos otherwise id be up way past midnight watchin tv or on the computer

maybe ask the other half for a massage before bed haha

those head massagers actually put me to sleep if im sitting in a chair...

but yeh sleeping pills wont really help your situation cos you wont wake up when your kid starts crying during the night... they knock you round a fair bit too cos you wake up the next day and feel like a grump again. trust me on that one

I read somewhere that using the computer late is bad for your sleep. It said something about people just checking email before bed wired you up.
I used to get back out of bed and get on here, but found it wired me so bad i still took hours to get to sleep.
Reading a book is meant to help. Being mentally exhausted helps me. I can work all day on the house while on holidays and be less tired than a day of school dealing with 'thinking' problems!

i had very bad insomnia. at least 3 hrs to fall asleep, then solid sleep for around 4 hrs, and then light sleep from then on.

i got a new mattress and pillow, use less blankets and leave the window open when im sleeping (every night, no matter how cold) and i sleep like a baby now. for some reason i cant sleep when im hot.

I suffered from it really bad last year, i went days with out sleeping, and weeks with only 1 to 2 hours sleep a night, i was a huge mess. Ended up depressed and sick. Gave in and got temazepan, was on that for a couple of weeks. Its true it knocks you, you may not hear your kids, so its best to have someone else their just incase. Also you may find it will wreck your days feeling grogy. I was like that for bout 2 weeks, and then weened off it and i got my normal sleeping pattern back. I still suffer from it occasionaly, but not nearly as bad as i did last year. Now i can manage it with a couple of beers if i feel it coming on. To stop it you need to recognise it early and get on top of it. So for me a couple of beers for a couple of nights will set me straight again, not a good way but its better then the medication in my opinion.

VHPiriie, A.D.D medication depending on wat it is, should actually keep you awake. Its generally Dexamphetamine and trust me it keeps you awake, was on it for many years.

I find I get it if I'm really stressing out about something. I can just be lying there for hours, and not get to sleep.

I can get to sleep easy as. My body clock is just so screwed from working random shifts, i usually only get to be about 1 or 2 am. Not a good thing when you start word at 4:30am (like i have next week).

Although, i can generally complete a safes days work without any sleep.

There is natrual stuff to help you sleep, you just put them under your tongue 30 minutes before bed. I liked them WHY? coz other than other drugs I was offeref I was too worried that I would be in a deep sleep and not hear the boys crying during the night or anything else, so that worked really well, it didnt knock me out, just made me feel like I had been rushing around all day, really tired.

I am going to the chemist Monday so will grab the name of it.

I think my problem isn't anything to do with lack of exercise or diet etc. I don't drink tea, coffee or cola and I don't really have much of a sweet tooth. This has been a long term thing for me started when I was pregnant with my first child 9 years ago and since having my second child its gotten worse. I think its from all the night feeds, and because he is a terrible sleeper my body has probably gotten used to not being able to shut down and relax. Hubbys snoring doesn't help matters much too lol I also find my mind races as soon as I lay down, I just can't seem to stop thinking.

I might give this stuff you are talking about a try christie, as I have the same concerns as you about not being able to wake up if my kids need me. My hubby sleeps like a log or is working night shift so he'd be no help so I have to have my brain semi switched on for the kids.

Too bad A.D.D pills are dexampthetamine also known as "SPEED". Or if its not Dexampthetamine it is ritalin also another stimulant similar to a cocaine high. There is not much sleep involved with them drugs, especially after taking 7. You would of been wired for 24+ hours.

I also have a mild case of insomnia. It takes me hours to fall asleep. The only way I can fall to sleep within 5 minutes of being in bed is when I am stoned. Or even a drink or two puts me to sleep easy. But if I have a few drinks I usually dont sleep or have a ****ty sleep.

i've had insomnia at various times. almost everyone has.

i don't believe in any of grandma's remedies for curing it. i find that when i can't sleep, it's simply that i'm stressed out. it can be as simple as something at work not going my way. i find that when i've had a really big day and got heaps done, my head hits the pillow and that's it.

what works for me when i can't sleep is to find something that's been really bugging me, then vow to fix it tomorrow. it could be a simple thing like a late tax return i haven't got around to. i find that after promising myself, and delivering on something the next day, i feel better about myself and get to sleep easy.

that may sound really weird but it works for me.
