    Default Car Insurance .

Car insurance is due for renewal so i had a look at what some companies had to offer.AAMI is $200 cheaper than what i am paying now .They offer me rating 1 for life whereas the mob i'm with now is rating 1 for one claim .
The thing that has me puzzled is the market value . AAMI will offer me 2K less than the mob i'm insured with now if my car is written off. Why, can anyone tell me is this so ¿
I thought market value was the same no matter who you were insured with .

my mum had just done a car renewal for her 2005 barina, AAMI's premium was $530, Allianz was just under $300 both comprehensive, Allianz market value was slightly lower than AAMI's but if she wanted to have a higher market value on the car she had to pay sightly a bit more, still way under AAMI premium and shes been with them forever and have the house under them and a vx commodore.

And with recent stories on the telly of AAMI and the kickbacks to the assesors and poor car rectification after accident, my mum told them there services are no longer required

    Don't go with AAMI...

They are the only insurer that doesn't let you choose your own repairer.

They aren't the only insurer not to give you a choice these days. Unfortunately it is the way many are going...... out to tender, cheapest quote wins.

Well I finally got insurance on my van about a week ago. Just 3rd party fire & theft, paying about $32 a month. The guy said it is a little extra then normal coz my bro uses the van 40% of the time and he's only on his P's....but it's only a few dollars extra.

I'm with CGU, and the market value for my van is around the 2k mark, which is pretty much 4x wat I payed for it, so if someone runs into me and it gets written off I'll be $1500 better off lol. The guy said I'd more then likely get the cash coz it's older so I won't get a replacement. I've got the cd player on the insurance, as is the amp, 2 12" subs and my musical horns....gotta go see them again coz it's now got an autometer 5" tacho and another amp.......the last time I had my stezza in my brothers car and it all got stolen, and as it had no insurance I was out of pocket real bad...I've only just got a decent stereo 2gether again so not gonna take the risk.

Nothing wrong with AAMI. I've been with AAMI for about 9 years now. They're cheap and allow unlimited mods if you're over 25. They are also more flexible than you think when it comes to where you get your car repaired. I made a claim late last year and in fact did choose my own repairer.

I found that AAMI don't like forced induction of any kind. Even a VS with a stock L67. They want $1400 per year. I'm 28 and thats with a 60% NCB. I always insure my car above market value. Currently with ING and insured for $13500. I'd be luck to get $10G if I sold it tomorrow
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!

thats strange, im with just cars (underwritten by aami) and i pay just over $800pa for my VS which is blown and stroked, with a whole bunch of other stuff done to it and my agreed value is $15800. oh, and im only 23 as well, with one crash on my record at 18.
so thats a bit wierd you pay so much for yours, might pay to shop around to see if you can lower your premium without effecting your insured value.

I'm in the process now of getting insurance organised for a new Outlander. QBE is $780, SGIO is $470, $42 000 agreed value with both, but QBE offer new for old for up to 4 years. Might give Allianz a call.

I went in to see SGIO an hour ago, they have the same policy as QBE except that the new for old is for 12 months, then it is agreed value after that, ended up getting it down to $419 for 12 months. Allianz couldn't insure it. Just car is AAMI, they were up around $680.
