Theres some council workers doing some work near the weir maybe 2-3km's outside of my town, and they bloody started a bush fire.
Naturally..being council workers... Before they rang the CFS or contacted emergency services, they stood around taking photo's of the bushfire they managed to start...
They stand around all day not doing work they're paid good money to do, then when they actually needa do something you'd think they would have the energy, but no its more important to take pictures than put out a bushfire near scrub on a 35 degree day.
thats council workers for ya lol, hopefully they all get done for arson

being a council worker myself (employed as a mechanic) it really frustrates me when people lay the whole stereotypical 'council worker' name down on me and fellow workers, i can safely say we work hard and deal with a lot of b/s from different divisions and have always got a good amount of work to keep us going everyday,
the workers you see on the side of the road definetly do not reflect on other divisions like mine and others

Haha! Yes a few weeks back there were 2 fires started in Belmont by Council workers.
its hard not to hang s*** of them when you drive past and they r sitting against a truck drinking ice coffee. i understand that other divisions work hard but the road crews are slack as they come. i love telling them how hard their jobs looks when i cruise past lol. cheap thrills

at the same time when you see the work they do, the tools they are given that can be of a crap quality and hard to use or breaks. i wouldnt want to do that job, its a carnt, would you want to be on a tar truck or concreting out in the wide open 30+ in the sun and no breeze with high humidity > no thanks

as said above, im not saying uni was the be all and end all of making the correct move. Im simply saying that i made decisions that make my life alot easier. at no time did i say that people who dont go to uni are making a stupid move, i was refering to someone sitting on a tar truck has possibly made a bad move along the line. (im not saying they r drop kicks or anything like that) but simply that they could have made things better 4 themselves

Who said the guys on the tar truck arnt doing that to make bigger and better things for themselves? A guy in New Zealand used to hold a stop go sign for a concrete company, he know owns the biggest concrete company there.isnt this site ment to be about cars not paying out peoples career choices.
you havent understood what im saying. It was said that its hard dirty c rappy work sitting on a tar truck, it was also said it was good money. I never said it was bad pay and no posibility of a future. If you read what i said, basically the people on tar trucks arent going to own the worlds biggest concrete company simply by laying tar. THEY HAVE TO MAKE A SMART MOVE!!!! im saying that im never going to have to sit on a tar truck and slave away like that because i have made choices that mean i dont have to work that way to achieve what i want. Sure anyone can own a big company but they have to work at it, not sit around the side of the road taking breaks every 20 minutes. yes this site is about cars but this is not posted in a car section mate

oh and no he saved his pennies and bought one second hand concrete truck and went from there.
I wouldn't do their jobs for quids, they work in pretty bad conditions and how flat out can you go in 40+ degree heat. Having said that when I worked at a servo I spoke to a council worker about to head in and do a night shift and he already had one house paid off in full and his rate was huge for the work he did.
I went to uni and bombed out, got a traineeship and I've never looked back. After 11 months of my traineeships my pay rate doubled. Had companies fighting over me. Same thing with two other mates. Before I did my traineeship I worked with people in a computer store who had a degree and couldn't find work because they didn't have industry experience.
Having said that two of my other friends have a degree or have completed a degree in IT and are working in jobs that will help them earn a lot more than I'm on. Although they did have to start at the very bottom to get in.
Where you start is not important, it's where you finish that is.
<davy> remember when braveheart came out and everyone said you can't have mel gibson playing a scottish guy cuz it wont be realistic?
<davy> well look at him now
<davy> an alcoholic racist
Well saidI started off as a toilet cleaner/dish pig, now im entry level management, full expenses paid apartment, and free accommodation anywhere in Aus. Cant wait till I'm upper management
I think that nicko was trying to say you have a choice where u go, be it on a tar laying machine for the rest of your working life or a golf course playing a few holes with company execs, smart choices and hard work go a long long way![]()
are you kidding me 30 grand, thats a joke, my 3 years of tafe cost me less than $1000 which you get back from the government, i then also get approx $4,000 in tools, tax free money from scholarship's grants etc,
so my 4 years of appenticeship + full time job after woulds cost me $0, while have a good salary, not the best but defiently way above average, eg i bout a 2 year old vz wagon in my 1st year (last year) approx 8 months into it and paid in full outright,
im sorry but you cant tell me 30,000 isnt expensive for a piece of paper

My degree will be $40k, but I get 3 peices of paper so thats ok
What ****s me is the price of books. Over $500 a Semester for books is crap. My Research Methods book was $196... "oh but it comes with a cd"
From my perspective... Uni is a dead end for ALOT of people. It is not a smart choice until its over. In my course, 400 people do the bachelor degree... And rack up 20k of debt for that peice of paper which, career wise, is basically useless. Of those 400 people, 40 end up doing the honours degree. The other 360 pretty much just wasted $20k each.
