Did you buy it from a dealer or privately?

Being a VR it is more than 12 years old, so no warranty from a dealer. Caveat emptor I'm afraid.

well i did test drive it and it was fine, the oil was a bit low and it was making a small noise so i put it to that, and it was private, isnt there some thing about cars over 5000 dollars have a 30 day warranty.?

errr... It was a private sale. I'll say it again, BUYER BEWARE.

You made an assumption instead of getting an inspection. Learn the lesson that is clearly there to be learned, disguise the noise with additives and sell it on to some other unsuspecting chump.

get some quotes and show him the cost, get a mechanic so say that these faults existed b4 u bought it (if possible) then show u guy u bought it off and try to come to sum sort of agreement, even if you get 1000 back you no. then tell him you will cave his kneecaps in etc etc and c how that goes. if all else fails patch her up and sell it

yeah i could do that, but he insists that he had no idea, maybe i should talk to his parents. because i will just end up getting to much rage build up and end up swearing my head off which will get me no where, he is not answering his phone, i will go around to his house tonight reguardless, better off going by myself. or i can wait an hour and wait for him to finish school, atleast he wont be able to avoid it then, if i get 1000 to fix it i will be happy.

everyone makes mistakes, i'll never buy a car again without an racv check on it. reason being is that, though i'm not 100% sure, if racv checks it and it ****s up like yours did within 30 days, racv will actually fix it for you at no cost. but if you bought the car at a high price then there's all possibility that someone else will buy it as well. people who don't know anything about cars etc. so just try get it off your hands

a guy i play footy with is going through the same thing, he bought a speed boat for $13k
and it all ran fine when they took it for a swim, so he bought it took it to get serviced and was told it needed heaps (350 chev) head had a crack, water jackets and bores all stuffed, he contacted a lawyer and supposedly he should be able to get the seller to cough up so dough because he sold it in good running condition....
personally i think he clutching at straws to ge any money but hey he might.....

i think if youve owned 8 cars in 1.5 years you shouldnt have trouble selling this one.

If I was in ur shoe's, I'd park it in the shed, pull the donk and trans out and fix it myself. As long as u got the tools and know how. I just bought all new ACL rings and bearings for my 253....can't remember exactly wat it cost, but it was under $200.

You could take it to small claims I suppose, but they would probably tell you the same thing. I don't know you at all, but I'm sorry to say, I'm on his side with this. Even if he did know, you still bought it.

What I don't understand is you're getting mad at the seller of the car for 'supposedly' selling you a dud car and you want some money back. But now you're thinking of palming it of to another unsuspectiing buyer. What will your reaction be when the next owner rocks up on your door step with a baseball bat demading some money back. Honestly people! Why do they call it 'common sense' when it isn't really common anymore.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!

you should have kept your old car, bad luck there's not much you can do, once you bought it as it was a private sale unless you can organize something with the buyer.

Have a look through the Trading Post in the wrecking section and buy one the same model and swap the parts over then sell the rest to make a few bucks

i paid 5k for it because its actually in very good condition and its manual, id fix it before i sell it, i have replaced gearboxes before but thats not the point, i have found the problem and its the front bearing, in the box, but you guys dont understand that he just got the clutch fixed and the flywheel machines and the nose plate re routed. so it could be the mechanics fault, i will get advice off my mechanic on whose fault it is before i take action, he is going to look at it later today.and i do blame myself in a way, but i want to get the whole story strait before anything happens.

at 5k buyer beware, very hard to get a vehicle these days that dosent have something wrong with it.

last year i paid 22g's for a vy berlina with 25 thouasnd k's on the clock (thinking this would be the end of my car woes), the auto trans started leaking fluid from the front main seal,(trans had to be ripped out there was a large hole in the casting between the seal after i got it back it used to sometimes really clunk into drive/reverse and occasionally surged into 2nd gear) had the infamous power steering shudder, radious rods used to clunk, and had vibration at high speed. ended up selling it back to the dealer at a loss just to get rid of it.

the list could go on lol ive had a lot of cars none of which have been problem free most of which have cost over 10 grand, my 5.0L vs stato was the worst of the lot but she was stolen/recovered i ended up fixing 99% of the problems spending 7 grand in the process on top of me 10 grand purchase price
