Hello,
I'm going overseas, and during that time my car will be outside 100% of the time, so I would like to know what is the best way to store the car?
I will will be gone for 1 1/2 months. (Maybe 2 months)
Do I need to leave it with full tank?
What do I need to do to protect the paint (Newly resprayed paint job)?? If anything needs to be done.
(cannot cover with car covers because we do not want people to know we a gone, for security reasons).
Any other suggestions??
Thanks in advance......![]()
a good canuba wax might help the apint work but its still gonna leave stains if a bird comes n sh*ts on it and its left for the whole month...and if left for that long the battery might need changing when you get home...i think!
Best way to "store" it would be give it to me for the month, you give it a full tank of petrol before you drop it off, ill start and drive everyday and keep everything lubed up and moving, making sure gaskets dont dry out or the engine sieze. Ill also wash it the day before you get back and tell you i washed it everyday. Ill even give it back to on an empty tank.
In seriousness if you can get a mate start it once a week or something that would help. If you dont security coded stereo etc then disconnect your battery, i always disconnect the battery if my cars going to be sitting for a while. Park it in a shed or undercover, and give it a good polish so most sutff will slide off. But as said above bird**** will wreck it if its sitting for a month.
Do you have any friends with a shed?
When you say outside, on the street? Or in your driveway? Buy a free standing shade thingy from Bunnings. $60 or thereabouts.
Its gonna be in the backyard outside. Yes, bird **** is not really a problem here but could happen. (Rarely).
I don't trust my mates as they hoon around in their car and I just don't trust them when it comes to cars. But my uncle is willing to start my car once in a while.
Also the car cannot be driven because it needs work. (Trans rebuild)
What about tire pressure, do I put more to compensate the lost pressure over time?? Id that makes sense lol
people will sugest heaps of things
best trick i found in some of my little trips i do.
disconect the battery.
leave a bit of fuel, but not much, dont watn to waste it.
and cover it up with a car cover. dont park under a tree things like that.
and bam, there ya have it.
either that or put it in a kenards storage shed, and do the same, cover it up and disconect battery. it's only 2 months, when it starts up again it's not gonna be happy, but you wont hurt it.
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
Just rent out a garage at a storage facility if you're that worried about it.
Give the keys to your old man, brother etc. to start it once a week.
take it to one of those "rent a shed" places and store it there.
disconnect the battery and leave it with 1/4 tank of fuel
Its only 2 months, just keep the bird crap and tree sap off it and it will be OK.Cant see the need to start it once a week.I went to NZ over christmas for a month and left two of my cars in the backyard they were fine. One i had just purchased from a deceased estate and it had sat in a garage for over 6 months.Started first go with no issues. If anything you may have a flat battery and a bit of pressure lost from the tyres.
6 weeks will not turn fuel stale. I would leave it full of fuel, condensation will be a problem if you leave bugger all fuel in it.
what about renting a storage locker for 2 months?
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
It wont turn it stale but it will lose octane. It would lose ~8 octane over 6 weeks I think (if my memory is correct). I'd rather have a 1/4 of a tank of 83 octane than full tank of it (which means you actually have to drive around on it as well, not just drive to the servo and fill up with some fresh stuff). Condensation will not be a problem with 1/4 of a tank of fuel.
What about half tank of BP ultimate??
