    Default is this art?

ill enclose a pic below, i want honest opinions on this.

the pic is one of this persons most famous art works, for those who dont know, it's by andy warhol.
reason for this is my wife and i went to the art museam in brisy to see the gallery of modern art, and andy warhol has a display there, and this one is ment to be his most famous one.

personaly i dont see anything interesting in this picture.
the origanl pic stood aprox 1.6m tall and aprox 400mm wide, it was on a peice of rice paper.
his method was screen printing, and used that method to create and pioner a section of art called pop art. and is also more famously noted for his redition of the last supper, and his version of maralyin munro

His art was basically a snap shot of pop culture at the time. For the time it was very different. I also went to the exhibition a few months ago. There was a lot of interesting stuff in the exhibition.

Art is what makes you feel something. If you don't feel anything from observing his art works then it's just not for you. I'm sure there are other artists works that have impressed you?

what makes it hard for me, is ages ago i went to europe, and had the pleasure of looking at artworks by michelangelo, davinci and picaso. also looked at works by a french artist, whos name escapes me at the time, (he was a land scape painter)

so i guess i was being harsh but i was also comparing the works of warhol against these artists.

im a fan of potrit painting, i enjoy landscape painting, and scuptures. my fravorite is ceasurs bust that is on display in the louve in paris,
all i have had the pleasure of viewing.
i know this year picaso is comming to the gallery of modern art, so ill be going to view that for sure.

LUCKY you! That would be awesome.

The closest I have been to any decent artists work was watching the Davinci Code and my sons attempt at drawing Michelangelo's David

I'll definitely be going to that exhibition, it's an opportunity that cannot be missed. One of my favourite paintings was one in the NSW gallery that was at least 3m across of a battle in France, never seen something so amazing before that wasn't in a book.

Some pieces to me are absolute crap and some are amazing. Worhol will never be a picaso or a davinci but has left a lasting impression on the world e.g. his quote "Everyone will get 15 minutes of fame". The parts of his exhibiton I like are the gun painting and the room of silver clouds.

The thing with art is it is all in the eye of the beholder. To the artist it means something. Gone are the days of art representing or imitating life. Van Gogh and Picasso are probably the best known for abstract and interpretational art, but some of the art around now is very borderline. Is it art? Or did someone throw up on the cat?

ever seen any of Robert Mapplethorp's work? photographic art, but still art, and very well done. th eguy's a raving lunatic (and a screaming homo, which comes out in some of his... er..... more contraversial works) but I've never seen as good a photographer as him. as for the soup can, hmmm well i disagree. but it has been mentioned, you can't really say it's not art, as it only needs to be art to the artist.

My wife used to nanny for a wealthy family years ago and she used to tell me about all the expensive art work they had. Oil paintings of things like a bowl of hot chips and a bottle of tomato sauce worth thousands of dollars. I personally don't get it.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!

^^^^ my partner is a nanny also - her boss has a pretty awesome piece on the wall, its just a phrase "art does not exist" written all over a bit of canvas and framed on the wall
Japanese scientists have created a camera with such speed that they now can photograph a woman with her mouth shut!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That's gold!!

But yeah, i have never totally understood why Andy Warhol's picture of a can of Campbells soup was so famous. But then again, i'm not exactly a connesoiur (spelling?) of fine arts.
