Default HDT Commodore Decals on VE SS ute? Ummm....

Was at the local BP about an hour ago filling up the tank on Burwood highway in Ferntree Gully (VIC), and was watching the cars go past as i was filling (there are some very impressive cars around my area going down Burwood highway so i tend to stand and watch as i'm filling the tank), aaanyways, this guy drove past slowly in a black VE SS ute, but he had the old HDT / Commodore red white and blue decal strips down the side of it that were on the VC's and the VH's etc.

Am i confused, or is there NO HDT VE ute available? Did i just witness some yahoo put a HDT decal kit on a VE SS ute like a twat?

It looked shocking. But he must have thought he was cool, because he did a u turn and drove past again. He seemed to be doing laps.

Omfg, that should be illegal, and that guy should be shot. That bonnet, those decals, and those wheels look so wrong on the VE shape. Sorry if i'm a little late on this subject, but i don't look in this section much.

I must say, that ute i saw this morning looked hell crap, the decals did NOT suit the ute at all.

To each their own i guess. I don't like some things people do to their commodores or cars in general but what i like will be different to them.

Yeah the ute i saw didn't have the "NEW GENERATION" section of the decal, it was 100% identical to the old decals.

can't believe they'd ruin the name of HDT by putting it on that.
it looks alright, but a CAI and an exhaust with a few bits of plastic doesn't put it in the "HDT" category imo

I'd have to say the wing looks like a chopped VL Walkinshaw wing. I just don't like VE's to begin with anyways, hence why i probably don't like this all that much.

and i doubt anyone would knowingly do that. Some chops are so impressive that unless you really go over the pics because you are suspicious you wouldn't assume it wasn't real. And some people do some dumb things to their cars for real anyway!

Why does everyone think HDT was something special. The commodores back in the day were really no more special than a top of the range Holden at the time bar a few stickers. Whats the difference now? They were ugly then, they are ugly now...

The only reason they are worth anything now is usually because of the attached Brock stigma.

Cobez, I think I have seen a ute similar to one your talking of...funny thing was, It was an SV6 base

They are classics now. I love the old VH and VC HDT's. But then again, we will be calling VX's - VY's etc classics when we are alot older too. As they are / will be a main focus in the car industry for alot of us in our 20's.

I mainly say that because all the time when my dad refers to HJ's etc, they were what he was driving when he was learning to drive in his late teens / early 30's.
