Has anyone heard all this crap on TV and the radio about the government keeping an open mind to raising the legal drinking age to 21? What do they think this will prove? The only thing that'll happen in my town (3500 population) will be that all of us young people will disperse and never hear from each other again, as the town is ruled by a congregation of old fogey church goers that complain about any noise what-so-ever. I can see the tourism market falling aswell, as many backpackers i've asked why they came to Australia say it's because of the low drinking age! Geez Australia, grow a brain for christ's sake!

God must love stupid people, He made so many.
I've said it many times before.
There is only one way to curb this, TOTAL ban on alcohol. It is a drug afterall.
Or at a minimum, 0.00bac for ALL road users.

Banning alcohol isnt going to solve anything... Just means more illegal drug use, more tax payers money spent on the war on drugs, more people getting locked up in jail for doing nothing wrong...

its not really designed to curb driving offences, more to the fact it's for all those rowdy dim wits in the clubs in brisbane and such. Shame it affects a whole demographic though..
Time to get out that old moonshine distillery I think ^^

ive also seen/heard that the government is looking at putting health warning adverts on alcohol similar to the ones now on cigarettes (huge waste of money imo - but hey, it makes it "look like" they're doing something).
i couldnt care less about the legal drinking age - i dont really drink and im over 21 anyway, but i really dont think its going to achieve anything more than putting more young people out onto the street to cause a ruckus rather than inside a pub/club/bar where they'll spend all their cash on **** and stumble home.

Basically some drunk ****, always trying to start ****. These drunk idiots are usually young people, 18 to 25 I'd say. One day I'll probably get my arse kicked. Who knows, I might even die like many people have before just from being beaten up for no reason. Or the lesser known life-long problems like brain damage, spinal injury, facial deformation etc... Why do I live in fear? No one deserves to live in fear. Alcohol does this. Sadly alcohol will never be outlawed. As I heard today on the radio, alcohol unlike cigarettes is dangerous only when abused. Even though 99% of young people abuse alcohol, it's still 'only dangerous when abused' so it will never bad outlawed. Cigarettes are dangerous no matter what yet they won't be outlawed either (yeah, smokers can be angry about me saying this, but think about it: When your generation is over, and no one actually knew what cigarettes were any more would anyone need them? No. They are just a nuisance which smell horrible, make people cough and litter the streets with ugly butts everywhere. Oh and I forget to mention, THEY KILL. There is no point to smoking.)
fair enough, what i said is still valid though. the government doesnt want to rid us of alcohol completely (geez, they'd loose too much money!!) they just want it to appear like they're doing something about young binge drinkers - and the best they could come up with is to raise the legal drinking age.
maybe they should just make it rediculously expensive (even more so than now) so that younger people simply cant afford to buy lots of it, lol. $100 for a carton of beer and you wouldnt see so many "kids" running about off chops on the weekends.

Point being?
But then if you ban alcohol it will be made illegally and potentially much more potent and more dangerous.... It will just create more bad then good banning it. Majority of all illegal drugs would be much more safer if they were legal and were manufactured to certain quality controls...

That is my point. Its my opinion that ALL drugs should be illegal, or all drugs should be legal. Not pick and choose what they want to be legal.
You know the other drugs are only illegal because there isn't a way for governments to tax them.
Ask anyone who has lost a family member to a drunk driver killing them, and see what they think about alcohol. I really can't see anything good from drinking, other than you can **** a fat chick, and everything is excused 'because i was drunk'

yea, they'll probably be in hospital or dead from alcohol poisoning from drinking something i can almost run a car off...
And ask someone who has lost a family member to
*Someone speeding
*Someone speeding in a commodore
*A P plater crashing into them head on
*A kangaroo jumping out into the middle of the road
*Someone running out into the middle of the road
The list goes on
There is no point raising the drinking age, its not going to stop underage drinking.

my "idea" was more of a joke, even though it is feasible, i was just making a point that there are other better ideas around to stop binge drinking. but the goverment doesnt "really" want to do anything, just make it look that way.
i got that "idea" from a dave chappelle stand-up routine where he talks about guns and shootings. he says in it if one bullet cost $5000 then there wouldnt be any stray bullets in a drive-by because they'd be wasting thousands.
one of the lines from it - "wow, this guys got $100,000 worth of bullets in him - he must have REALLY ****ed someone off"
apologies for slight off-topic there...

I think we should follow the examples set by European countries that have a very low age limit (some countries 12 or 14 years old). European countries have very low levels (comparatively) of alcohol abuse and binge drinking than other western countries that have an age limit. In some parts of Europe parents let their kids drink wine or beer at an early age. This discourages binge drinking as there is no need for them to do it.
I believe the main reasons young people in Australia binge drink is because they know they wont get much of a chance to drink and/or they've never really tried it much so they go all out and try and drink a couple of bottles of spirits in a night or a shackpack. This is where the damage is done. I know that if there wasn't such a high age limit when i was 16/17 then i wouldn't have been binge drinking anywhere near as much as i was.

when we're under 21 and drink responsibly, no, we can't take a joke on this subject. On the note of my distillery, we only made it after i acquired a paddock basher and wanted to run it off potatoes. To cut a long story short, it didn't work - hydraulic lockup anyone?
