Shoes hanging off powerlines

Totally random topic here but this is something I have wondered about for years and my 8 year old daughter asked me yesterday and I didn't know the answer. Why the hell do idiots throw a pair of tied together shoes over powerlines?

I always just figured it was a stupid hillbilly bogan thing to do i gets thoughts of cletus the slackjawed yokel just thinking about it. Or maybes its just a bored kids prank but my 13yr old niece said its used as a sign that you can buy drugs there.

What theory do you guys have on this shoes dangling from powerlines phenomenia?

Yep as said above its the drug dealer/brothel sign. Also with the drug dealers down here, they have the shoes up their, then if their porch light is on their open for business lol.

Looking at Snopes it can mean a lot of things. Some of these are : Drug House, Gang Boundary, Gang Meeting Spot, Losing Virginity, Graduating Seniors and kids doing it just because it's fun

That's an American thing. But as previously stated, it symbolises drug dealers house / brothel.

There is a brothel in the same street i work in, there are 3 pairs of shoes over the powerlines LOL.

there's a doctor's office/house near me that has it's red light on if they're home at night in case of emergencies
