Due to the strong winds we had in Melbourne last week a few big branches of two 20 foot pine trees in our front yard were dropped onto the main power line of the house and also brought down our phone line.We have removed the branches from the lines and the question I want to ask is how much a tree lopper would charge to fell these two trees. They are situated close to our neighbors fence line and close to the main power cable to the house. The trees don't look like they could handle another dose of strong winds.
Thanks in advance.
Just ring up a well known tree lopper in your area and he can give you a quote and what would be the best way to attack the situation. My fiances dad is a tree lopper, and some bigg trees and also obsticles like power lines increases the price of the job. Also you have a climber who goes further up the tree and cut smaller pieces and lowers them down.Sounds like it will be a very pricey job.goodluck

You really need to ring up and get several quotes! It is really hard to guess what they will charge at all.
I had a massive tree (over 1m in diameter) in my front yard in the middle of the round about at the top of my driveway.... tree was about 20 meters high and only 12 meters from the house!
I got 3 quotes to cut down tree, woodchip it so i can use in my gardens and grind the stump and roots down below ground level.....
1st $2000 !WOW!
2nd $1100..... :my: NOt bad really!
3rd. $500...WOO HOO!!!!
WTF!!! How can it be so much cheaper!
They are a small company that owns a lot of equipment, and he says he can do it that quick because they are quick and they have little overheads! ( he has been in buisness over 30 years anddoes not have large machinery debt etc.
Yes they are properly licenced and insured etc... That is something that you have to make sure.INSURANCE!
I guess i will find out in 2 weeks time!![]()
We had a tree which was massive, they wanted something over 4 grand when my mum rang up, because it was near touching the powerline and rubbing on our gutter and next doors. We couldnt afford that type of money for a tree to be cut down, so every day after school for a little while me and a mate would cut a couple of branches down a night, done it slowly took about 2 weeks all up (about 1 -2 hours a night) and we got it down to the stump which we gave our neighbour a 6 pack for him to come chop with a chain saw. The whole yard front yard was covered by branches and stood over a metre high (cut down all branches laying flat), so thats how big it was. Cost 70 bux to get mulched up and taken away. I would never pay someone to cut a tree down, if your careful and take your time its quite easy, and dont try and do it all in one shot just piece my piece.

i think you need to cut through some council red tape first, i thought you could be fined for exercising common sense without first getting permission when it comes to lopping trees.
