Hey all, hows it hanging.
I am having the insurance blues atm, I have had the GTS for about 1 year now, and have had full comp insurance for a year also. I am currently the secondary driver to my father on the polocy.
Im not happy with the areed value and terms with my current insurer and with to change to a mob what could give me a good agreed value.
I have rung shannons only to be told that "I do not attend any motorsport, so you cannot have any cover" Since when do you have to watch motorracing or participate in it to get car insurance? Ive been looking at both options for cover, to stay secondary driver under my father or to branch out and become the primary driver on my OWN polocy.
Does anyone know of any car insurance brokers? Has anyone used a broker before? Im quite lost in all of this, any help and advice is appreciated.
Mackoz.
I am with RACQ. $820 pa.
Just cars want $2050.
i have quickly learned that insurance companys seem to make the value of the premiums up as they go along, i am suprised that shannons wont let you get insurance, why do they bother advertising on tv then
The Mad Dutchman
i am with SGIC, $640 a year for my VT. Agreed value of $11,000 + mods (about $4000) im 18 second driver on policy with father aswell

I went here today and got a quote for just me,
eCar Insurance - Welcome to eCar insurance.
They came back with like $5XX.XX which is great. But i was a little weary with their cheap rates. They then gave me a call and I had a chat with them, im concerned with the agreed value. They said they mainly base it from redbook, like most/all other companys, they also said that they cant make a agreed value. But he was saying somthing about ranging from 9-18k depending on vehicle condition. I told him Ihave pages and pages of pics and documentation showing the cars condition etc. I asked why they were so cheap because they are a web based company, based in brissie, exxess rates seemed to be normal too. Anyone dealt with these guys before?
With Shannons, they have a general "enthusiast" test they go through. Sometimes it's a matter of getting the right guy on the phone.
If you can go into Shannons (wherever they are locally) and sit down and talk with them, show them your car etc it makes it a lot better.
Give them a story about how much of an enthusiast you are. How much you look after your car. Don't just park it anywhere, lock it away in a garage all the time etc etc. Explain you involved with the Just Commodores Car Club and national online community etc etc...
Don't be put off by the initial phone call - it's hard for them to tell who an enthusiast is over the phone. They don't want to jest end up with every joe and his mum ringing up.
If you put in the effort and tell them the warm and fuzzy story about your car, you, etc etc they'll insure you. One of the few places that don't frown on speeding fines too. If you haven't had any, means you aren't as enthusiastc about your car. So we were told at the HSV Club meeting we invited Shannon's to come along to anyway.
Uhr right ok... just go to the shannons web site Car Insurance Australia - Car Enthusiasts - Classic Car Insurance - Shannons you could have figured thoughand go through the online quote I`m sure It had a HSV catalouge in there when I was checkin prices on a stocka VS, and I did not see any Q`s about motorsport participation, spectation. Oh try one quote as under 21 and one as 21+, also it has agreed value of your choice as long as you can pay the $$$
I rang up for a laugh a while ago, gave the normal spill. The only driving infringment i told them about was a warning for speeding when i was 17 (obviously ive had other fines since then) and they referred me to their underwritten company.

YOU HAVE TO RING SHANNONS!!! The online quote is not accurate as each person's case is different.
Didn't even see the 'over 25' thing.
I wonder why they wont insure people under that age. Everyone else is happy to take peoples money.

Last time we called shannons a few years back they said you need to have a certain amount of modifications I can't remember how many but they were too expensive anyway. We're going to call them up in the next few days should be interesting to see what the premium is on a blown, stroked vt.
