Cool What Do You Think About Abortion & Abortion Procedures????

Do you think that abortion is a decision that people should be allowed to make, or do you think that the whole concept is wrong and no one should be allowed to do this?
Is it a clear case of yes and no, or are there acceptions for certain situations and circumstances??
Have you or someone in your family had to make a decision like this? How well have they dealt with it after the procedure?
    Keep it civil please!

if the woman falls pregnant due to rape then i think that they should be allowed to have an abortion. Also if it can be proven that the baby will suffer once born then it should be allowed. But for some clapped out slappa hoe who is only getting an abortion so she can keep taking a length then hell no. either live with it or adoption

Ah this topic again, this will get fiery again I'm sure. I don't agree with abortion, especially when its used as a 'contraceptive' by promiscuous loose women. I think it should only be performed in cases where it is deemed medically necessary eg. mother will die if she has baby or ectopic pregnancys etc or proven cases of rape.

I also feel that it should only be allowed in these cases in very early pregnancy, im not sure what the current situation is but last time I read up on this there was one state that allowed abortion up to 28 weeks. 28 weeks gestation- thats pretty much a fully formed viable baby, babys born at only 22 weeks have survived. Some people dismiss abortion as just a procedure to remove an unwanted foetus but at that age I don't see how the baby could be classed as just a foetus and it truly is murder in my eyes.

Well said Jules, couldnt have put it better myself.
So far i personally agree with all of you here.
The reason i asked is exactly as Jules has stated above. One of my best mates and his wife finally conceived after trying for many years ( about 12actually.) Finally after a couple of IVF treatments they got the good news that the egg had taken and was looking very promising.( about the 10 week stage).
Now suddenly she has been diagnosed with a fatal medical condition and doctors say she has very litle chance of seeing the pregnancy full term and they have advised her to abort the baby.
Her husband wants her to abort to give her a better chance (which is still very slim) as he does not want to lose his best mate! She does not want to as she says this is her only chance to have a baby, as she will most likely die anyway and that she wants a baby to live on as a reminder of her. They have also been told that the chances of severe mental and or physical retardation is very high due to the chemicals and drugs that they will be using on her.
I understand both of their views fully, it is just terrible to feel so helpless and sad about their situation.

I disagree, if people want to abort that is their choice and it is no one elses business to say otherwise. Abortion should be mandatory for people on the dole, I mean, why do we want another deadbeat child bought into this world to be just like mummy...daddy isn't usually around.

Anyone who says it shouldn't be allowed, that's fine, at the end of the day it is the womans choice and that womans choice only. If she makes that choice she shouldn't have to put up with biggots saying anything about them. Again as like in another thread, too many people want to know what others are doing and want to have their opinion to them.

I believe it is a choice that should be open to women. I can understand how some people ar opposed to it and that is their perogative (sp?). My biggest beef is with the right to life crowd who picket the clinics and subject the women going in to even more pressure and stress than they are already under. I find their tactics disgraceful and they do their cause a great dis-service.

I personally don't see the difference between catching the little fellas in a condom or terminating it after 12 weeks.

Neither are living, breathing organisms with feelings.

I believe everyone is entitled to make the choice for themselves, these mishaps don't just happen to promiscuous people, it can even happen if you use all the right protection.

There should be mandatory counselling before an abortion so the would be parents know exactly what they are doing, what effects it may have on their emotions etc etc. If after all that, they still want to go through with it, then it's their decision.

I have absolutely no problems with people who want to terminate because they can't, or don't want a baby, the thing about putting it up for adoption is that irrespective of whether they will be caring for the kid, there is financial strain before the birth due to the mother not being able to work towards the end. Not to mention the emotional baggage you carry for your lifetime as well. I have more of a problem with people who keep on popping out babies just to get the baby bonus and other welfare rather than ones who are making an informed decision.

    You sir are an idiot.

Seeing my soon to be baby at 8 weeks it resembles a living thing.
By twelve weeks you can see the small child within.

Unless you go through this i dont understand how you could possibly say that.

It also looks like a peanut... Your point?

Just because it starts to resemble something doesn't mean it's a living breathing organism. What I was saying was that at that point you're not killing someone, you're killing a bunch of cells starting to form something, not much different to the sperm you catch and throw away. If at these stages of development they had a brain mass and developed emotions etc etc then I'd be completely against it, but alas they do not, so it's no different to catching all your little potential kids before they hit the egg.

Save your insults for someone else.

sperm in a conny is alot different to a 12 week embryo.

    Not exactly a great comparison.

    You are an idiot
Tell me how it is different...

What is different? Does it have any consciousness or awareness?

It's very relevant, at both points you are just disposing of cells. Both are just at different stages of development, neither have any intelligence or awareness of what is going on.

At what point do you define it as murder? Looking at it objectively using any form of contraception is murder if you look at an embryo in such an early stage being terminated as murder. Would you say the morning after pill is murder?

If you can provide a logical and thought out response, instead of just replying you're an idiot that would be far more constructive.

That's the problem with this topic everyone lets their own feelings on their kids, religion, family etc etc cloud logical judgement and looking at the facts for what they are. Nothing I have said here is incorrect, but you have labelled me an idiot because your emotions make you look at it in another light.

I think its the womans choice ! No one should be able tell a person what they can and can't do with their body . if your religion tells you what to do then thats fine for you but don't force that on anyone else .. I have been in this postion with an ex partner being pregnant and its not a decision that either person can take lightly .....

The parents choice, or the womans if the 'father' isn't in the picture.
I don't see it as murder.

Religion can just **** right off!

Something i should bring up here tho, law states that until the 'baby' draws its first breath, its not considered a person. I think the law should be changed in cases where, the mother has been injured by someone (car accident, abuse etc) the person responsible should be charged with murder if the baby dies as a result.
Of course, this seems like it contradicts my comment about abortion, but, the mother has made an informed decision on her life at that point, for whatever reason, she shouldn't bring a baby into the world, and i support that 100%!

most are, and as with all stereotypes, the decent people get the same negative view.
