hi all
i just bought a paddock basher, and i felt really guilty about taking a commodore off road and smashing it in to things. So i bought a ford, a carby 4.1lt XF. I paid $200 for a car with 200,000kms on it and its been off the road for 3 months. I picked it up and it had no battery, but he said it runs fine. I got home and it wont start, not even turn over. Any ideas about what to check first. i know nothing about fords
Try kicking it!!!
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
No power at all?
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
When turning the key, the dash lights up and the accessories all work, but when moving the key to the start position it wont turn over
Dead starter motor ?
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
im thinking that, im going to connect a battery to the starter and to the chassis, see if i can get it to turn. Ill clean it all up on wednesday. I tell you, its the gods getting revenge for me getting a ford
have you tried cranking it over by hand
project vs wagon...5speed
vs wagon acclaim
not yet, but i will. Ill be able to do these things on wednesday, my next day off.
Im also going to check the starter, the neutral safety switch and relay
Hit the starter with a hammerworks most of the time to get a starter that's been sitting for a while shocked into life
There is also an ignition wire that connects to the starter, make sure that is connected.
fixed it, the ignition is dodgy, once you are in the "on" position you need to pull half the key out then turn it to "Start"
drives fine
Now organise a paddock day on your property, charge everyone $10 to have a carve around the paddock in your Falcon. Or $20 if they want to bring their own paddock bashers.![]()

Each year on the day of bathurst we turn up at a 20 acre block(surrounded in trees with a massive dam on one corner.
Conditions of racing are no more than $300 on a car, must wear a helmet, must have full esky strapped into front seat, esky must be full when you start(must be refilled at pitstops), empty when you finish.
Last year we had 27 cars in total. My XE Falcon which i Paid $50 for finished 2nd behind a $300 EF lol. Many cars ended up in the dam. Many cars ended upside down. Many drivers passed out at the wheel and ended up rolling into one of the trees that line the paddock. Best of all, we had two local police personnel. They had a hoot. This years event we have 40 cars by the looks of it, we are also organising camera men hehe. Nothing funnier then seeing a pitstop in where you fill the car up with a 20 litre jerry empty your cans/bottles and refill.

So this gave us 2 of the constabulary on our side.
This particular member now has 3 others coming with him all with their own cars this year![]()

heheh didnt you know? with the X series fords, they were soo advanced they have a password to start them, it goes something like "START YOU ****ING PEICE OF ****"
minux that sounds like fun but till i see footage i dont believe it :P
Thats similar to what my mate does for his birthday, except he has heaps of prperty, and in it is a giant lake thats not very deep, so we do mud races. Normally start with 8+ cars and finish with none. Lol hes a mechanic though so he normally spends more time fixing cars for us. Great fun, except all the falcons are retired, itss all about front wheel drive carsI have been building my charade for this year, gonna be a machine lol. Oh and we have a few shorties their great fun, aslong as u dont rest your elbow on the door whilst getting air and no rear shocks lol.
Im gonna be the party pooper and point out how stupid an idea that is... the potential to hurt or even kill someone is massive and then EVERYONE gets done....
Not hard for a car to crash into another and then burst into flames, ingniting the booze strapped close to the driver.. or even into the damn and then drown the person because their unconcious as their drunk.
Alcohol + Cars, Dont Mix. Its just to dangerous. People have enough trouble not smashing into other people when sober, let alone drunk.
aZk.
no chance of drunk races at my place
yeah but thankfully no one listens to you.... or common sense!
anyone who lived on more than 5 acres of land knows the freedom it brings..
YouTube - paddick fun
we had a few paddick bombs over one day and did laps of the joint, only had 10 acres up there but it was pretty fun..
Will post up footage of this years event. Until then I guess you have to not believe.
thats fine bud. You can think its dangerous, but when speeds rarely exceed 60 km/h not much damage can be done. As for booze igniting, people drink premixes or beer, yet to see these light on fire successfully.
We quite often deliberately crash into people, not to mention deliberately force people into the dam.
It is not like we are on a public road or in fact near one, so I have no issues with it. Alcohol is more dangerous in bars in the city, at least we don't get driving on public roads afterwards or go beat the crap out of random people just for kicks.

Im just saying be careful... 60 kays is quite capable of killing someone... drunk people do stupid things....
aZk.
Thing is though, even if they wanted it closed down they probably couldn't do a thing...IIRC, so long as you're on private property, away from any sort of public road, and not causing any harm to other people, they can't shut it down.
Still, thats awesome that you got that cop on your side
As far as danger goes, i'm sure most of us have no worries about going into town and getting drunk, which is just as dangerous, if not more dangerous, you could say something stupid to the wrong person and get beaten up or killed, or you might walk out in front of a car and not realise it, etc, etc.
