    Default Dragging in Adelaide

Hey, i was just wondering if there is anywhere in adelaide that you can legally drag? The drag strip at A.I.R isnt used, is there anywhere else?

also, are you allowed to drag a car that has been previously written off? Because me and some mates are planning on getting a mates VL that he crashed and wrote off (slightly bent chassis rails) and stripping all the weight out, converting it back to petrol and only spending what money we can get for the LPG system and his calais interior. so before we start, i need to know if you are allowed to drag something that has been written off.

    cheers, Josh.

Yes you can drag something that has been written off, but it still has to comply with all their safety regulations.

There are a few 1/8th mile strips in Adelaide, 1 i know for sure is near Mt Gambier, but thats probably too far away for your liking.

Get in touch with the sporting car club of SA, and they'll be able to tell you for sure if there are any strips operating.

    1/8th mile would be fine.

the car has a bit of a crushed front end, but some slight modification with some new panels, hammers and welders shuold get everything attached.

    cheers guys.

Nah we don't have a drag strip here.....closest from Pirie would be the strip up the Riverlands way and one at Whyalla, both 1/8th mile strips.

Our dirt circuit club has a burnout pad, that's about it (other then their dirt circuit track).....they had a burnout comp last night. Was pretty good but I had to leave at 8:30pm to get ready for work. It finished about midnight I think.

    Haha, talking it up abit?

Were years of even having a strip capable of being used, so we'll wait til then until we start the 'ours is better than yours' stuff.

What else are we to do in south australia though? People in south oz dont get there dyno run done and then claim that they will smash every other car out there. You seem happy to sit back and hang **** on people all the time. How about just using your head and thinking about what your saying. If us south aussies start drag racing on the streets all the time and getting some form of a time for the 1/4 mile then you would sit on your high horse and tell us how dangerous it is and how mature you are etc etc etc. So for now all we can do is put our cars on the dyno and have the odd run to the speed limit. Fair enough we could drive to Vic to do a run but thats a huge effort to go to. SA seems to have high power figures and thats that. until we have a strip and can get regular runs done and fine tune everything then calling us dyno warriors is nothing but your opinion. Except you think its fact!!

lol, trust me, it isn't just my opinion, there are very few workshops who can backup their claims on almost any car they do. Those that can are very reputable Australia wide.

Not sure what fine tuning has to do anything with dyno runs...but anyway. I am sure we will see some of the figures that are being quoted completely blown away by the same 1/4 runs.

Whos fault is it that dynos are happy?? People post their dyno sheets and say " Yeh im really happy with that. now i just wish i could put it down the 1/4"

Find me a south oz person thats has said "yeh my dyno reading is off that charts man. my car will smoke anything out there"

People dont say that so that fact that you call us dyno warriors is just stupid. If you make it to SA put your car on a dyno here and get a reading, show us the difference. Until then you dont have a leg to stand on

Settle down guys, maybe one day we will get a track until then we will just have to be happy with our dynos. Some of us have made the trip over to heathcote and yes it is a massive effort to get over there....but it IS worth it.

You are completely missing point on what is meant by dyno warrior. It is quite obvious you do not read quite a lot of threads quoting insane power figures for X mods.

If they have a dyno run done and post the power reading thats not quoting insane power figures. Thats simply saying what they dyno has read out. Its quite obvious you dont like being challenged

Yes, your right, i do not like being challenged.

Just because a dyno makes a reading it DOES NOT make it right. An unopened LS1 with no tune will not make 240 rwkw. An unopened V6 with no tune will not make 170 rwkw. hence happy dyno aka dyno warriors. These figures will further be blown away when said 240 rwkw LS1 runs a high 14 and said 170 rwkw stock V6 runs a high 16.

I can have a dyno run in where my car makes 600 rwkw. Doesn't mean its right.

Its only 160rwkw on a happy dyno, not that that matters, i just drive it for fun, not for numbers or times.

Thats cool, all I am saying is, if your going to quote dyno figures, quote a best 1/4 time, otherwise really, power figures mean ****.
